He played in the 96 one against Leicester, when we conceded in the last minute of extra time. I had no recollection of him in that side! Just remember Roberts' goal, and then relentless pressure from Leicester until Edworthy gave away the penalty. Neil Lennon bossed it, and for some reason I thought Robbie Savage had a blinder, but turns out he didn't even play for Leicester! Then their keeper sub right at the end.. and... well... the worst footballing moment in my life that immediately followed.

Anyone unhappy that Eddie McG is in squad - I remember him as an Arsenal player waving sarcastically at us in the Sainsbury’s when celebrating with his team mates. This along with Wrights badge kissing and sitting in the away end with the Gooners still riles me. This said Eddie was the subject of one of the funniest comments I heard in the old stand - early into his Palace career after signing from Northampton, and after falling down a few times when not even tackled and old guy behind said ‘where did you get this guy from?’ to which his mate answered ‘I think his mum knitted him!’ Maybe I’m bitter or just dislike disloyal players - when then come back to the club in all innocence.

Think he has been with us running the kids team for about 6 years.

Rob Quinn didn't start or play in the 1997 final did he? Maybe my memory is swiss cheese but nash, edworthy, tuttle, linighan, gordon, muscat, roberts, hopkin, rodger, dyer, shipperley was starting xi at wembley wasn't it? If my memory is correct and without using the Internet Robert Quinn made his first appearance for us coming off the bench in the last game of the season in 1996... His first start for us was against Leicester in the play off final. I think he was 19 at the time. Imagine starting your first game at that age at Wembley in front of 80,000 people!!
Don't waste your time with jealousy. Sometimes your ahead, sometimes your behind, the race is long. But in the end it's only with yourself!! |
