Luca has been patchy - including some very good stuff - but he's not why we concede late goals The midfield moves I'd look at are bringing on either Hughes or Schlupp. Elsewhere I've sung the praises of the Macca Gallagher axis but that doesn't exclude a substitution in that area to bring on more energy/dynamism. They get through an amazing amount of work and fresh legs there could add impetus. I'm actually hopeful for Hughes. PV appears to be a great coach. Yes Macca has always been good for us but he's added to him this season. I don't see any real reason why he should not be able to add to Hughes - who has been a very good player - in the same way.

Play keep-ball, preferably in the opponent's half. Never bring a defender on for an attacker because then there is no outlet. If anything bring on a lively midfielder, because this is the area that is vital to compete.

Jools was a master of the delayed goal kick. He would, when required, regularly take 30 seconds to take one.

I think those points are contradictory. When Tomkins was introduced I saw that as us '' parking the bus ''. As a result we sat deeper and invited Arsenal to try to break us down. To be fair it nearly worked, but the alternative of bringing Schlupp on and keeping Arsenal higher up the pitch would have been my preference.

The Brighton goal came from a mistake by Guita 3 terrible goals to give away but not one of them was down to decent play against us. And these are all examples of things that a coach can't legislate for. Which makes it all the more frustrating. I do think that the Newcastle goal was ultimately a fine piece of skill from Wilson. Sometimes you just have to accept that those moments can happen

The answer is to keep possession and try and score another goal. Hard I know if the team is tiring and the oppo are desperate to attack.

They are professional footballers, who go through all different types of in-game, shape, possession, strengths of the opposition/individuals, how best to counter mental fatigue in a game, what went well and what didn’t the previous game analysis. So my question is: Why not try to do everything in your power to give the opposition a throw-in rather than a corner at any point if you are susceptible to conceding a 1 goal lead. Arsenal corner should’ve been prevented but ok - the Newcastle game don’t give away cheap corners. I don’t get why they tend not to learn from past costly mistakes.
