That reminds me of a lovely story about the inimitable Dennis Thatcher. He was being offered tea and was asked whether he'd like Ceylon, Assam, Darjeeling, etc. "No, no," he said - "that stuff the monkies advertise will do fine."

Whatever the American tv company give them to hold on their sitcom.

The one that has that effect on me is two police cops talking to each other in baby voices. I don't even know what it's advertising.

I remember one from the 1950s. Picture of a snowman, with snow falling, singing: "I'm the Veno's snowman, Call me pop,
You'll find me in the chemist shop,
Take Veno's and the cough soon goes,
Stop that cough with (sound of a pop) Veno's.

Harribo

Do 'ave a Dubonnet.

I remember this well. Oh dear, I'm older than I pretend to be. Gin and Dubonnet was the Queen Mother's favourite tipple as I recall.

Dad and I watched games standing on the muddy slope of the Holmesdale Road end. He cheered and I rattled.

There was an advert, I would guess in the 80’s or thereabouts and I’m sure it was for ketchup.
It featured an accident prone husband walking into the kitchen where his family were. All sorts of slapstick humour then followed. Ketchup everywhere.
It was hilarious.
Anyone else remember it? I’d love to find some archive footage of it if any exists.

By the way - go to work on an egg was written by Fay Weldon.
Salmon Rushdie wrote Naughty but Nice (cream cakes) and Incredebubble (Aero) and That'll do Nicely (American Express)
