Are they playing the same possession based football as the first team? How do both Kelly and Clyne handle it, if they are? I like Kelly, who never lets us down and wonder if he would be the replacement if either of our two first choices got an injury. Tompkins is a cracking centre half, but a ball player he isn't.

FT 1-2 Basically, Blackburn done to us what we did to City, picked our pocket. I disagree slightly with steeleye about the team balance, thought Kelly & Clyne adapted well & Clyne linked up well with R-S on the right, if anything, Eze playing upset the 'normal' balance to the team, but, a good 62mins for him whilst being tightly marked & thankfully no stupid fouls against him. MOM? Their keeper. Kept us out 4 times at least although one might have been a player on the line. In answer to 'Wissie' no, not as much as the 1st team, these lads play more direct, but can also play from the back, they tend to move it quicker up field. I too, can see Kelly being back up to our 2 CB's if/when injuries strike.

U23 struggling a bit. However they did just come up via the playoffs so hardly a shock. Hopefully do enough to stay up and then progress next season. It is important we do to ensure the youth play to the best standard.

It's a learning curve for our U23's, but so far so good I think. Blackburn were good opposition today. A draw would have been a fair result especially as the ref disallowed a perfectly good goal for Palace in the first half. As for Ebs, that was a good hour he had and a useful next step in his recovery. All being well I think he could be back in contention for the Christmas games, maybe even a bit before that.

Our U18s are a more fluent unit and know each others playing style, currently 2nd in their table and looking very promising. The U23s this season have not resorted to having senior players drafted in to get match fit, until this game. They have done quite well, in this game they did not know each other and it showed in the defensive errors which cost us the game. Rich-Bagholeu was missed, Kelly taking his place was not justified. There were no senior players in the Blackburn side they knew each other and had come to do a job, in short they were more of a unit.
