Moreover, the trend set was likely to continue along a safe, flat curve and indeed did just that. This year we are transitional in both senses but many agree (including Shearer!) that our play merits more points. Given the transitional nature and our (hopefully) upwards learning curve, we all hope that our trajectory is better.

That is a fair comment however if you look at the good pressing teams they nearly all play European football and progress in the cups ie they play a lot of games. We currently have limited exposure to those (unfortunately) and we have an almost fully fit squad so I would hope that anybody seen "flagging" will be rested. I genuinely believe we have the players for a certain amount of squad rotation now so I hope your idea that we might dip in energy is unfounded (well, at least until we are in Europe next year

Amuses (and disturbs) me the way media pundits who, just 2 months ago, assured us that Vieira was "untested at this level" and "inexperienced" and that Palace were nailed-on relegation favourites, are now telling us (when we played Arsenal) that Vieira will soon take up the reins at the Emirates, and (when we played City) that Vieira will certainly be their next manager when Guardiola goes in 2023.

The sign of a good manager is learn from your mistakes. Against Arsenal he made defensive sustitutions to protect out lead basically inviting them to score. Against City the exact opposite and we score a second goal.

I too have been proven wrong, everything I have seen about PV I have liked and been impressed with.. he's quietly confident, he gets the job done, the press releases are to the point, when he speaks it's with purpose. The football has been very entertaining and dropping points has been unlucky, it's also good to see us give teams a go. when he signed I was underwhelmed, I didn't rate him, however, he's been a breath of fresh air.

this is the thing right, sometimes there are external forces at play that pull the rug from underneath us and it all comes crashing down. When Freedman quit as manager we were 4th and when Bruce left we were top (I think?). Who saw either of those things coming.

I was generally optimistic about Vieira and it seemed obvious to me that Gallagher would improve us, but I did not expect us to be as entertaining to watch as we have been. I also did not expect to see such a huge improvement in Ward and in particular Mitchell. Vieira seems to exude this calm, father-like figure which most of the team seem to openly welcome and the biggest thing is an obvious desire to play for the win, even against the biggest teams. As has been said, Vieira's real credentials will come to the fore when things don't go our way. He has a strong coaching setup around him, so hopefully he'll be ready. Nonetheless, if we do manage to sustain these performances across the whole season and are lucky with injuries then we may well be on the edges of the top eight, as so far only Chelsea and Liverpool have outplayed us and Eze hasn't even kicked a ball for the first team yet (plus Olise is chomping at the bit). It feels good to be alive as a Palace fan right now

Lucien Favre was my first choice and I was annoyed that we couldn't get him. Steve Cooper and Sean Dyche could have got us a similar number of points but I think the football would have been very similar to what we have become used to. Although I would have liked wins over Brighton and Arse, I'm very happy with the ways things are at the moment. Perhaps those draws will keep us all more level headed in mid to bottom half of the table.
It's 106 miles to Chicago, we got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark... and we're wearing sunglasses. |

Echoing some sentiments. Dyche and Howe were branded around for a long time as Hodgsons successor -i definitely did not want either. NES and Favre were on the brink and I was absolutely devastated that we didn't get either over the line. Then up popped PV...for me an unknown quantity but I was pleased simply because it wasn't Howe or Dyche. Genuinely didn't know what to expect from him but I can safely say I already love the man. He's humble. He uses subs at the right time and for the right reason. He realises that we can go toe to toe with any side and that belief is installed in the players and the supporters. I know it is early but if good things take time then providing that we can hold onto him then exciting times lie in wait Edited by herefordeagle (04 Nov 2021 4.39pm)
