I'm a lot smarter than you sonny.

Your straw man argument is that I support corruption.

I don't, but I also know all too well about the hypocrisy of liberals and socialists.

You are a shining example.

So you think what Owen Paterson did was wrong then?

You could just go and read his earlier posts on it.

Perhaps he will spend the next 43 years atoning on a pro Bono basis like John Profumo.

Absolutely nobody supported Ms Webbe. I can think of no reason why any politician would have tried to pressurise a Judge in this matter. It is simply your prejudice.

In fact she was an unpopular figure imposed by Momentum. I believe the party would have been rather satisfied at her fall from grace. Do try to keep up.

The only way that they can convince themselves that they are right in their own heads is to believe the entire system is against them - the law, the courts, the media. It takes a special type of leap of faith to get to the point that they’ve got to, and they think they’ve been ‘red pilled’ once they have and had some sort of epiphany once they do, but it’s just a cultish belief that the world is against them because they don’t know how to fit in to modern society.

If they could high five they would.

Well it's fairly obvious that if he has indeed broken Parliamentary rules, then he is guilty of that misdemeanour.

Beyond that, I don't care.

I know this is all you socialists have, but you really need to move on.

It takes a certain level of conditioning to be blind to what is going on in modern Britain.

I have been before the courts may times over many years and have experienced bias on only one occasion. It was a case about a damaged car where the claimant had full expert evidence to support the case but the judge dismissed the case as the claimant had spent time in choky 4 years earlier for dealing dope! That judge was subsequently criticized openly by the Lord Chief Justice on another matter and later quietly retired. Bad apple.

It used to be the case that the bench was pro insurer and pro finance. Not any more.

Decades ago, if you had a title or were a celebrity you were more or less bullet proof. Not any more. The Stephen Ward summing up would not happen today.

I am told that in matters of personal injury and medical negligence, there are judges who are seen as pro claimant and others as pro defendant. Similarly judicial review. However, I suspect those judges would be appalled by that label and the bias is probably unconscious and informed by their personal experience in practice.

True, most judges are from very narrow socio-economic origins but I believe they genuinely try to get out of their narrow, clubbed culture and understand the lives of us plebs. Otherwise, the myth of judicial bias is just that. Something concocted by drama to make good telly.

However, if you have clear evidence of judicial partiality, perhaps you could spell it out and we can chat again.

Another difference in approach.
One Facebook post about a footballer = 8 weeks in prison.
16 messages, including a threat involving acid = a suspended sentence.

I don't want to derail this thread but you are absolutely right, 8 weeks is ridiculous for a racist rant on Facebook, he should have been given community service. I'm not going to feel sorry for the t*** but it does seem disproportionate to the crime.

It's 106 miles to Chicago, we got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark... and we're wearing sunglasses.

Tommy Robinson and others....for example that guy sent to jail because of his views and legal books he bought on Amazon, but I really don't have a desire to write numerous posts on this topic again.....it's just going around in circles.

While I think your anti Labour posts on here are odd, there is some truth in this post. Then again, we would not be the first aging generation who begin to feel a bit lost and out of time.

That said, the kids are very different from us. When my daughter is with her school mates it resembles a UN meeting. When she talks about her mates, I hear their names mentioned at home and try to prize out their ethnicity, just out of curiosity. Her look is not one of judgment but incomprehension. It isn't that she doesn't care or is right-on. She simply doesn't know. They are just other kids.

And this is not home indoctrination. No woke learning in this household! It just... is. They are growing into this culture as we grew into ours.

Not many generations before yours we were getting rich on slavery, hanging 12 year old boys for pick-pocketing and visiting underage prostitutes using a legal, openly published guide book. While not universally accepted, they were features of the prevailing social mores.

I know it's hard and my wife looks at me like I am a dinosaur every time some woke crud is mentioned on the media and I explode. But times change.

I agree.

I'm not a fan of judicial punishment for saying the wrong words, it's nuts. At the same time, it is hard to have sympathy for someone who appears to be completely obnoxious. I won't lose any sleep for this guy, but a jail sentence is disproportionate relative to other crimes.
