No, i am a resident of the Canary isles, lived and worked there for 12 years, now retired, it is nice to live in a place that is virtually of the radar, i can become a Spanish national it i want after being a resident for 10 years, but i will decide in the future if it benefits me

For what its worth though, along the lines of what you say I don't think any territory should be forced to accept x number of immigrants going forward. That was of course one of the main deal breakers for people with Brexit. The 'come one, come all'. I can't see I blame you for moving there. A bit of sun and a more laid back life, what's not to like. I've been to the Canary Islands a couple of times and really enjoyed it. I'll be sure to head back before long courtesy of Ryan Air cheapo flights and having a couple of mates there!

The pre Brexit problems in my opinion was we were are in the same "Club" but everyone played by different rules, if you arrive in Spain with nothing, you get nothing, But if you Arrive in the UK illegally or not, you receive Help, Morocco is only about 70 miles from Lanzarote, The Moroccan's/Senegalese's goal is to get to Madrid and be released so they can get to their perceived land of milk and Honey, The UK, a problem caused by 30+ years of politically poor decisions, that's why i left 12 years ago, i could see it becoming the place it is becoming.

I would therefore suggest that you are actually more of an immigrant than the Morracans/Sengalese you describe, who are actually migrants. A migrant is someone who moves temporarily to a new country, while an immigrant is someone who will settle and stay permanently.
For the avoidance of doubt any comments in response to a previous post are directed to its ideas and not at any, or all, posters personally. |

I have been to most of the Canary Islands including Lazaretto and spent a month living in Tenerife to see if I wanted to move their permanently. To be honest after 3 weeks I started to think about home there wasn't enough to do beyond the obvious swimming pool / beach lifestyle. I'm glad I tried it as it was an itch that needed to be scratched. I realised that my retirement would be better living in London and travelling the world. In London I spent my time doing the culture thing which when you are away from it you realise just what a great City London is / was (thank you Mayor Khan). Anyway just wondering, I assume you are retired.
