Former Tory energy minister quits party and praises Labour competence.

A former Tory minister has quit the party while praising Sir Keir Starmer’s “competent political leadership”, particularly over energy.

We certainly need an end to the short-termism of the tory years.

Another senior tory bemoaning the lack of a plan for the NHS even after all the meddling there has been, unlike Labours, is Sir Edward Leigh.

They'll be gone soon and then everyone can live in the utopia of the new government.

I haven't seen anything about that as all the political headlines that I have seen to day are on the subject of "Labour and Starmer accepting thousands from major Just Stop Oil donor"

It’s an internet forum Maple that’s sort of the point.

As for your sources, as with anything loosely within this field, it’s easy to poke holes in , scrutinise, cast doubt over etc. which it is too late in the evening for me to do even if I wanted to. It is also possible to site sources for just about any opinion these days, as it has been, where possible, throughout history. Doesn’t nullify any discussion, opinion of individuals on such things or categorically prove anything however.

You know what, F-it I actually did! Any comment on this?

There’s a lot of criticism of this group and a number of notable academics have endorsed, and in some cases been coerced into apologising, for supporting what seems like ‘the other end of the spectrum’. This group is supposedly comprised of academics, amongst others, however I am sceptical yet unaware of the truth in this. But whom to believe? Perhaps we could suggest that there is occasionally bias in academic research and no actual objectivity leading to an absolute, flawless conclusion of everything? Who’d of thought?

‘No child is born in the wrong body’ I must say I tend to agree.

Setting aside the topic of trans for a moment, I would just like to reinforce my earlier point. I provided academic reviews from 3 different countries, each science based. Whilst I appreciate the effort, the response was one view from a pressure group. Solely a critique, and clearly coming from people with an agenda

I have no agenda which is why I looked for authoritative studies. Of which there are many more.

I can declare that a good friend of mine has a daughter who is claiming she wants to be treated as a boy. I wouldn’t be surprised if the rationale is more based on endemic societal bias in favour of males rather than gender dysphoria but I also wouldn’t be surprised if they really do have dysphoria. What I know is the journey of discovery is massively painful for all concerned.

My criticism of a lack of rigour, and agenda-based opinions, stands.

As far as I can tell the donations to the Labour Party and Sir Keir Starmer were in 2020

Just Stop Oil was founded in February 2022

The credulous, gullible public led by the nose by a malicious, self-serving group of media barons

That’s fair enough Maple but just as one instance, to reinforce my own point, upon typing a few words into google I noticed your Indian based source came up as the very first hit which I was inclined to ridicule however you’ve communicated a reasonable stance. I chose the first choice for a source when slightly changing the wording of my search to suit an exaggerated version of my own stance.

To reply and perhaps correlate with your post I would distinguish between an agenda and a subjective opinion. This being an internet forum, albeit a somewhat close knit community bound through one shared interest, I was attempting to infer that threads would revolve around a theme of subjective discussion as opposed to academic debate. I would be inclined to assume most people would read anything I post as the former as I assume for others. When we start attempting to cite academic publications, the validity and relevance of them is a whole different discussion requiring far too much effort and therefore I would dissuade it as (me at my most facetious) I would be inclined to suggest that the world will never look to HoL for intellectual authority or commentary on such sincere matters. For absolute clarity, nothing I have posted have I ever considered to be taken as anything more than ‘one blokes opinion’. I do enjoy the challenge to these when presented in a decent manner as I do try often to laugh at myself whenever I feel too strongly about that I am not well informed on. Again, for me there is a distinction between discussing or disagreeing in this medium and trying to dismiss or insult another user where not entirely necessary if at all.

As for your personal anecdote, I have no feeling beyond wishing the best for the referenced individual. I’ll leave (it all) there and apologise once again to Georgenorman et al!

Responsibility Deficit Disorder is a medical condition. Symptoms include inability to be corrected when wrong, false sense of superiority, desire to share personal info no else cares about, general hubris. It's a medical issue rather than pure arrogance.

Or, member of the public who is not a Conservative party member criticises Govt.

Slow news day if this makes it into the news.

I am no fan of the current Govt leaders but this is a preposterous " news " item
