what teams (or players & managers ) from football history.

if it is a. then they get a lot of cards and lose a lot of games.

if it is b. then they push the limits of the patience of the referee and still keep 11 men on the pitch. Which then may or may not produce a good result.

c. an extra category....thugs who are not good enough to win a game, even when they stay on the pitch ....Maroune Fellaini, David Luiz.

what teams do you remember ?

Stoke under Tony Pulis....dubbed 'a rugby team' by Arsene Wenger who couldnt handle the pressure.

- Netherlands 2010 World Cup. Kung fu masquerading as football. The violence got them to the World Cup final, and then a red card cost them the trophy. After 100 minutes of trying to ignore the Dutch antics, Howard Webb eventually saw red.

Atletico Madrid under Diego Simeone.....clever thugs, but we now see referees losing patience with them.

Paris Saint Germaine PSG in recent years.....poor disciplinary record...and losing games for it.

Joey Barton/Samir Nasri ....a red card every time. The gift that never disappoints. A guaranteed match-loser.

John Terry/Roy keane/Raheem Sterling...... surely a very low number of red cards relative to all the fouls & hits. And much silverware to attest to their gamesmanship.

Sergio Ramos....a bit of both. Very violent, lots of red cards, but also very many winning games.

what others ?

interesting to note that the players at the top of the table below are mostly excellent players in their own right. Some very familiar faces to any palace fan.

Most red cards per minute played ? Jonjo Shelvey ( peaky blinder ?)

Eze Peasy at Anfield....

Pretty much every team that has won the title.

The great Liverpool teams of the seventies and eighties all the talk about their glorious football and yet they were happy to put the boot in when things weren't going their way and the referee's were often rather forgiving and that is putting it mildly.

The same with Fergies Fledglings and of course dirty Leeds who may not have started it but certainly perfected the art of rotational fouling.

One more point

Any team that ever fielded Kevin Muscat cannot point the finger at anyone.

Btw and by way of my education there is a terrifically impressive skill whereby players take another out and then fake a fall. The best proponents are able to con the ref that they have been fouled. Simulation to an art form.

But does this have a name? It should have. "Corpsing" fits but sadly its taken.
