Just watched the match on Sky and was 'impressed' by the number of balls that were played down the line which went out of play. Does the pitch at Old Trafford fall away from a foot inside the line?
Noticeable that ManU don't play close to the line

And deGea was positioned to cover entire goal for Ayews shot just before the goal so it wasn't such a sure thing that the commentators made it out to be.

there's obviously something that PV isn't seeing yet from Olise, Hughes and to a certain extend Edouard (although I think he was more victim to Benteke banging in a couple of goals), however with the way we're playing at the moment you have to wonder whether whatever the limitations are, are likely to be more damaging than our current attacking impotence. What Olise, Hughes and now Eze might lack in fitness and game management, surely can be learned in competitive matches, whilst significantly boosting our ability to press and create sustained attacking pressure. Would imagine that he's seen enough in the last few matches to know that he needs to make changes, or will he give the Utd starting 11 another chance to prove him wrong?

It's been an odd season. We started really well, and expectations got a bit of out hand. But we've since been in a rut and at the moment it seems hard to imagine us winning. We don't seem to be clicking together as a team and the good possession we had at the start of the season seems to be over.

Our central midfield position needs work. Gallagher will be back to Chelsea (most likely) and McArthur doesn't have many seasons left. Kouyate isn't at the level we need. Likewise, Hughes will be a second choice midfielder but he isn't going to win us games.

Our defence is looking solid when Anderson and Guehi are fully fit. We have plenty of pace on the wings and good enough up front options so investment in our central midfield positions is the key thing otherwise I don't think Viera is going to get this team playing at it's full potential.

We miss them but it's more than that. We have been worked out, as we always would be. We are being pressed before we can press. Gallagher has been recognised as our main creative player and the link we always look for and he is being given no time and crowded out. This is now a real challenge for our management team. We weren't just second best today, we were third or fourth best. The ref and the crowd played better and we were lucky to get 0 goals the lack of belief we showed.

True.

A certain manager had come in against us with Villa as the same today and it creates a lift as you know and I wouldn't ever class Villa as average.
Our position in the table is one I didn't expect, I really thought we'd be struggling this season to keep out of the bottom three and have been pleasantly surprised with the players we now have and the football which is being implemented, to say the things many fans have been saying is quite freighting when considering everything that's happened so far, yes our last three defeats looks bad but they could've quite easily have been three draws so I'm not too bothered especially when also considering we could've easily prevented two of those losses with a little more competence and concentration which can also be fixed in our new training facilities ..another thing I wasn't expecting.

Not ever? You been watching them for only a week then?

Good points, well made. I was very disappointed not to see Hughes start ahead of Schlupp. His short cameo last week looked like he added so much more, and carried himself like a proper central midfielder which, tbf to Schlupp (as you say), he isn't and never has been.

I was genuinely surprised to see him being picked against ManUre, particularly for the full 90 as I thought he had a shocker against Leeds. Was never in the play and was mentioned less than 5 times over the whole 80 mins he played. Remember Puncheon being picked by Pards week in week out on those type of invisible displays. In Puncheons defence there might of been no suitable replacements but with the likes of Olise and Eze about surely Schlupp should be pulled ? Ayew may take some stick, largely due to his lack of confidence but at least he is getting stuck in.

Next 4 games will be crucial. Halfway through with 20 points being the benchmark. Let's hope we can be a fair few points above this and move forward in the New Year. COYP !!

I didnt enjoy the match, I was there. Both teams were poor

I read the Sun on Monday, and thought was I at the same match and then concluded, the articles were written before the match and had CP won, there would have been little said/
I watch MOD on Tuesday, whats the point we say, how much was said about CP.
at the end of the day it was a team of so called World Supertars againts CP. we lost 1-0.... so utd had some chances, so do other teams.

Yes Chek & Schlupp have been great servants but use them only as back up players. Both lack crucial ball control as midfielders and both has this ability to ball watch.... who could have picked up Fred.. Schlupp... great out on the wing head down, but sorry hes no midfielder!!

my theory is he's done what lots of managers tend to and put physicality and winning the ball in front of everything. Shame we don't know what to do what we get it...
