For a few years I’ve been lucky enough to be involved with an extremely talented team of people on the Red And Blue Review Palace podcast.

I have always said that the pinnacle would always be to interview Steve Coppell on our little podcast.

I am incredibly proud to say after lots of hard work by the team, here is a five part interview with the great man.

Even if you are not a Palace supporter I think you’ll find this a good watch.

Merry Christmas from all at Red And Blue Review

Please share this wherever you can.

All five short parts can be found here.

Our pleasure. We’re just amazed that he’s never done a Palace pod before.

Thanks for your very kind comments

It's a pleasure.

One aspect that I never realised was the significant influence of Billy Smith in identifying non league players to go after - in many ways typical of Coppell to deflect the credit onto someone else; equally, the story of Ian Wright actually coming from Carshalton was the first I had ever heard of that. Again, the anecdote of Alan Smith having a full time job in the Strand as well as coaching the reserves/youth set up - you could hardly make it up and such a contrast to today.

What is Steve doing nowadays? Shame he is not somehow involved in the English game or with Palace.

Brilliant listen. Probably with the most important man in our recent history on the football management side

Anyway great stories from Coppell. Funny that he is one of the few footballers with a degree from when he started playing at Tranmere. The only other famous other player I recall with a degree in those days - who ended his English career there - was Pat Nevin.

Also his career crossed rivalries being a Liverpool fan and playing for Man Utd / and managing Brighton after us.

When he is back from his Far East family trip, hopefully he will come and do a follow up with us. We still have much to discuss. Once again Thank you

Enjoyed hearing the mention of signing Alan Irvine.

That's a thing that stood out during Coppells time with the club being able to get bargains in the transfer market.

Would be good to hear more about the transformation of the squad and what individual players brought to the squad
