1 win and Anderson isn't good enough to get back in the squad, Hughes, Tompkins and ayew are the best thing since sliced bread.

Cant wait to lose against Southampton and for the pva is tactically inept, ayew shouldn't play again and we need Anderson and mccarthur back ASAP post's to start again.

If he is tactically inept, lucky he left in the summer then

Totally agree. I don't know what's going on with Zaha at the moment but it's just a matter of time before he gets himself sent off the way he's carrying on.

As I said earlier on in this thread, I wonder if he's being affected by suddenly seeming to loose his 'top dog' status.

He was the biggest fish in the Palace pond; the one man we couldn't play without, first name on the team sheet every week and the darling of the crowd when he picked up the ball and took it round three players. His ambition was a top 5 club and European football, and quite rightly so at the time.

Now, suddenly at 29 as his sun is definitely heading into the West, no big club has come in for him, he's certainly slower (by his standards) and less agile of late and suddenly his pond is full of hungry, younger players, taking their chances and taking the glory, together with a new manager who isn't building a one-man team around him.

It must, for a player like Wilf, be very hard to take mentally with the frustration of unfulfilled ambition.

I like Wilf up front as a cameo main striker. He's not as good on the wings anymore it seems to me, but deadly as a striker if he gets a sniff and that forces oppositions to put their best defenders on him which provides gaps elsewhere. Viera is doing a great job making Palace a SQUAD team that relies less and less on individuals. It's awesome to think that Wilf can be dropped without a revolt from the fans. My major take from the Everton match is Will Hughes. I saw him at training some weeks ago and thought he looked below standard. I'm happy to see that it must have been a temporary thing as he was brilliant against Everton. I believe that our run of three losses was largely due to the role Macarthur played in linking and mopping up in midfield and developing attacks. Milo or Kouyate cannot do that as well or as fast, and TBH I was expecting more losses, because the ball wasn't getting to our more dynamic frontline players, whose quietness became apparent and were wrongly getting blamed. The Everton match from the first minute Hughes was helping to regularly bring these players into attacking action - Everton hardly touched the balI - saw it as a critical part of our system, and was hoping that Jairo or Hughes or whoever would do that role. SO my big positive of the Everton match was Hughes. Also, good to see Tomkins doing a job that he can now slot into whenever Anderson or Guehi are out. The squad is starting to look awesome. Also Clyne did a half decent job at RB last week. CPFC looking good. I like Viera!

I think the other good news (and I am sure has already been covered) is that Hughes had a good debut for us. Our central midfield seemed problematic but all of a sudden, and with Jimmy Mac coming back soon-ish, we actually look a bit more decent in the middle.

And boy, that win was a relief after four games without one.

Fingers crossed for Wednesday evening.

Everton could have won if they had taken their chances in the last minutes.

Ward getting in a knot and a break down the right beat 4 Palace defenders.

No game in the PL is easy and fine margins apply, plus VAR penalty decisions etc.

A good win and we are happy, but don't get carried away.

What would've happened then if we'd done the same during the whole game?

I was interested in Benitez post match comments. Everton started badly ( this coinincided with Hughes and Ayew basically controlling the game down the right ) but changed their shaped and got a foot hold in the game. Palace's goal came from a mistake ( and Gray's pass was a shocker ) when Everton were in control. Equally although we had lots of room early on the right there was no room on the left and Wilf was doubled up on.
Tonkins goal was also apparently a mistake ( though it was nice it was not us conceded from a corner )
Once they got their goal our composure on the ball evaporated and although we got the points it could have easily ended up 2-2. We are still a work in progress and it was good to get the rub of the green when i thought against Man U and Leeds ( particularly ) this was not the case.
How did Benteke not get at least a yellow for his challenge around the half way line. I heard mention VAR had technical issues ?
Pleased as well there were no booking for any of our team as i think a few are on or around the 4 yellow card mark - Wilf been one of them.

Am so glad that Hughes played with such confidence and assurance
and when Anderson and MacArthur return the manager will have good choices and decisions to make.

Ayew, Hughes and Edouard were excellent although I was not impressed by the two substitutions - neither Schulpp nor Benteke improved the team. Just hope Hughes is not injured.

And, of course, our No.23 was immense and now our top scorer. What a crying shame he is only with us for one season - to my mind he looked a lot better than several in the current Chelsea squad.

We must maintain this form against Southampton and hope we can nullify the Ward-Prowse menace - he will be after Zaha for sure.

Interesting you single him out for praise...I thought he was reasonably anonymous. Not bad necessarily...just not great either. A bit meh.

Granted it was from the Holmesdale, but to me it looked like he lost his footing....accidentally two footing him

VAR doesn’t get involved with mundane yellow cards, only obviously dangerous tackles that result in red cards, offside and penalty box incidents.

As with any post-match analysis, there are lot of "ifs", and many have been mentioned. Here's another one. Yes, Ward nearly gifted a goal to Everton, but that break started with what in the current climate should have been given as dangerous play against an Everton defender. Or "foot up" in old money.

Palace since 19 August 1972. Palace 1 (Tony Taylor) Liverpool 1 (Emlyn Hughes)

Rafa was only doing the right thing over Richarlisson who behaved like a big baby.

Everton fans booing him.

The outcome? The player is now out for several weeks with a calf injury.

Ho hum
