The big difference is in goal difference however, 0 this season compared to -11 last season. Another way of looking at it is that after the corresponding 19 fixtures last season (replacing Fulham with Norwich and Sheffield Utd with Brentford), we had 19 points, so you could say we are 4 points better off. Another anorak observation - we have played Tottenham twice and have yet to play Watford - so we could be a point or three better off

I remember people fearing for us if we abandoned the negative football and played a more entertaining brand. It would have been suicide with the squad we had last season but we've invested so shrewdly this year that we've proved it can work. We may have the same number of points but, given that this is a new team learning a new style and considering the late goals we've given away, this is a team which should certainly have loftier ambitions than any other during our stint in the Premier League. If we sign a player or two in January and have luck with injuries for the rest of the season, 8th - 10th is absolutely possible. Would love us to put together an FA Cup run as well.

The difference, for me, is the enjoyment factor. The points are roughly the same but we are often fun to watch. I suspect that we will end on roughly the same number of points as last season, which will be a fantatic achivement considering the new manager, new players and new playing style. I'll be happy with finishing above them again.
It's 106 miles to Chicago, we got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark... and we're wearing sunglasses. |

Pretty much my view on this. Although I do not think we need to or will buy anyone in January.

The goal difference last season largely attributable to one calamitous home game. Don't disagree this season we are more fun to watch. But I think 45/46 points is over-cautious pessimism borne from good sense and decades of long suffering support by most posters. Thus and abandoning good sense... Before the season began many stated that this season would take ages for us to warm as a young team adapted in transition. Me included. Sticking with that I think we will perform better from February (AFCON) and see us finally getting 50 points and a positive goal difference.

This season I look forward to every game ... what team is PV putting out ... how many we will score etc etc Last season it was oh god is he really playing him again ... how many will we let in ... who will score etc etc So in comparison .. this season is great to watch and we are getting points ... dropped some as well ... but overall give this season to last. COYP

We may well end up with a similar amount of points and end up in our usual just below mid table finish, but it’s so much more enjoyable getting there. The best thing about the way we play now is that under Roy, once we went 1-0 down, especially at home, we knew it was game over because there was no plan b, we just seemed so reluctant to attack even when we were losing, it was painful to watch. But now even going 2-0 down you feel like we can get back into a game because we actually attack.

We also don’t have to suffer the constant “games since last won without Wilf” as we now have options up-front that means we can get points when he’s not in the team. No way would we have played as freely against Norwich last season with the players we had missing.

Even though I made a "witty" reply further up the thread, I realise that rather than absolute "bolocks", it's no doubt based on probabilities. Ergo while the actual points can't possibly match the prediction for each individual game, the total over a series of games is a reasonable statistic.
