I think we are on the same page. I strongly believe that everyone who can be vaccinated, should be vaccinated and anyone who refuses deserves to be ostracised by the rest of us. So Djokovic must be deported and gets no sympathy from me. That's not to excuse the way that Tennis Australia misled him, but their mistake cannot be used as a reason to make an exception.

I do though think there's a degree of confusion over how and why the vaccines were able to be put into use so quickly. Vaccines are not to be confused with the development of a completely new drug, which must be tested for years. Almost everything in them has been in widespread use in other vaccines for a long time. The science around the use of the tiny quantities of specific antigens is well understood and known to be safe. The scientists were all very confident that their developments would not show adverse effects, beyond the normal exceptions. Nevertheless, the full programme of trials was done, only this time in a very fast and well-resourced way. Anything at all that caused the slightest concerns resulted in trials being suspended and in one case, a vaccine withdrawn.

Now we have the hard evidence that the trial results are correct, and the scientists' confidence justified. Millions of doses have been administered, with only very rare problems. That the benefits massively outweigh the risks can no longer be argued. Countless lives have been saved, others allowed to continue to live normal lives and work and hospitals allowed to function.

I think we're well on our way past Omicron now and its consequences, certainly in large part due to vaccination, also prior infection (especially useful after vaccination). Omicron will act as a booster of sorts in and of itself.

It'll likely/hopefully turn into a flu jab type situation now that we've given ourselves a significant leg up. In my view we'll move away from the need from some kind of extensive history of vaccination if its shown to become less relevant.

Novac certainly is in no real position to whine though considering he exposed so many others to covid when he claimed to know he was positive. He was somewhat caught in the centre of a political situation mind you, that is paetially of the government own making. So they don't come out of this looking particularly sensible either. Still, ultimately the government and by large margin the public do not appear to want him there so off he goes (the rich and famous breezing in, doesn't fit the mood of the moment).

If only there was a way he could've avoided this...

You won't convince the anti vaxxers though who will continue to claim that they won't take the vaccine as they don't know what's in them whilst munching away on their Pot Noodles, sausages and chicken nuggets
