Oh dear, these anecdotes from Badger and Wisbech have prompted me to join the party. As much as anything I'd like to use this as a way of calling out to any of you chaps who are of a certain age to go have a check-up (PSA blood test) with your GP.

Until 2013 I felt fit, fine and invincible, then I had a routine check with my doctor, including PSA, and all hell broke out. In brief I was diagnosed with Prostate and the medics also found Myeloma which, effectively, is incurable. I had no symptoms of any of this.

The Prostate was treated privately with radiotherapy, which at a conservative estimate cost the insurer about £60k. The Myeloma is being treated under the NHS and I have to say that my local hospital in Chichester have been wonderful.

It irks me when I read stories of folk having to wait ages for NHS treatment when so much money is being spent elsewhere.

So, anyway, get checked out, even if you have no symptoms. Much easier to treat if found early.
