The issue for both will be wages. Kelly needs to be playing and is now 4th choice at either centre or right back. Maybe a loan until his contract runs out in the summer.

Jairo's contract renewal last year was a strange one for me as he's never been a regular and was already on decent wages. He has definitely improved and had a few good performances last season but in other games he was invisible and seems to lack the discipline to hold his position. He will never be a regular under PV.

Why would wages be an issue both are not on that much.

Kelly is on around 20 grand a week

Jairo around 50

His contract was renewed because the club was looking at loaning him out but the loan fell through at the last minute.

Jairo has never been given a proper chance we saw spell under Roy at Left back he really started to do well (I believe he won player of the month or week) and was dropped straight away when players returned from injury.

Roy mentioned him a few times stating about he needs to work change his game and then mentions again about he had done what was asked from him sound surprised but still does get given a chance.

I don't think we should sell him a loan would be best option he really needs game time.

Not sure why we even kept Kelly he is on low money but never going to play we have seen this plenty of times he could of had a run out nothing also its an area we have plenty of others ahead of him so let him go.

Think the real story here is that these exits would open up bench spots for U23 players.

Both Jairo and Kelly are extremely useful bench players who can cover a range of spots and neither has really let us down when on the pitch - at times they've looked really useful even if Kelly is past his sell by I guess.

I'd take this as a positive step if it does mean that some of the U23s are considered worth a spot in the match day squad.

I agree. Footballers these days need to be superfit tip top atheletes. Jairo looks like he likes a pie.

Sell Kelly, loan out Jairo. Riedewald hasn’t been far off the mark when given a chance, in my opinion. He’s contracted until 2024, not a huge wage, let him a chance to impress somewhere that will give him regular minutes and if he does well he’ll come back better for it. Maybe that club covers half his wages for the duration of the loan, even better.

On the face of it this seems a very strange descision unless we have another central defender lined up. Guehi and Andersen are first choice with Tomkins as first reserve. He is very injury prone so losing Kelly and Riederweld (who was bought as a left sided CD in a back 3) seems wrong

In the U23 we have transfered Baggy Pants and loaned out O'Brien.

I don't think now is time to lose them. Kelly is a reliable deputy and will probably go on a free at end of season. Jairo has just not worked out I had hoped that PV would be able to release the talent that is obviously there. When he arrived he looked too lightweight and was easily out muscled. He has certainly filled out but looks too slow and inconsistent to be an EPL midfielder or defender

Maybe we have identified a couple of incoming transfers that upgrade the squad & need the slots.

( Ever the optimist / glass half full )

Not really, if we had any any U23s good enough, they would be on the bench, if Kelly and Reidewald were here or not.

As you ask why wages will be an issue I'll try and explain my comment.

Firstly wages are relative - they may not be on much v the Palace average, but i suspect they are too high for any Championship side (incidentally i think Kelly is on c£30k a week). Jairo's contract was extended after his goal and performance v Newcastle last season - nothing to do with a loan, merely SP being a bit naive.

So Jairo £50k a week - who will buy him? Maybe the bottom 6 in the Prem? £50k a week is probably the top salary for those teams (i think Burnley has a £50k a week cap). Maybe Newcastle are the only team who wouldn't blink at this wage. The £50k will also limit overseas interest - no chance of him going back to Holland, for example.

For the Championship i suspect other than the ex Prem contracted players the top wage is c£30k a week. Swansea got rid of Ayew as he was one of their top earners, yet at Palace he is one of the lowest.

As a free agent Kelly will have more options in the summer.

second that! Only a few players at Ajax, whole recently made the semi's of the CL are on more. Very much relative indeed.
