His goal against Liverpool was one of the best I've seen from anyone, let alone a right back. Would be a fitting tribute to Doris if we could repeat it against Liverpool again, next home game. To put it into perspective, it would be like Joel Ward unleashing one from 30 yards into the top corner. Not strictly true as we were in the old 3rd division then, if I remember properly. Anyway, thanks for the memories Doris. Living down here does have some advantages. At least you can see them cry.

His goal against Liverpool was one of the best I've seen from anyone, let alone a right back.

Would be a fitting tribute to Doris if we could repeat it against Liverpool again, next home game. To put it into perspective, it would be like Joel Ward unleashing one from 30 yards into the top corner. Not strictly true as we were in the old 3rd division then, if I remember properly.

Very sad. An all action player who only stopped to remove the ankle from the last player he tackled. I remember that goal and the fans screaming "no Doris, pass, pass, please pass, WHAAAAT. Enjoying getting up later and not having someone who knows better than me (apart from the missus of course).

Very sad. An all action player who only stopped to remove the ankle from the last player he tackled. I remember that goal and the fans screaming "no Doris, pass, pass, please pass, WHAAAAT.

Enjoying getting up later and not having someone who knows better than me (apart from the missus of course).

Sad news indeed. Who would have been manager when he converted from a forward to defender - Venables or Allison? A masterstroke - had he persevered playing up front his career may have fizzled out but he became a very good defender.

I will always remember him for that brilliant goal he scored past Ray Clemence v Liverpool. Sadly not recorded so you had to be there. Selhurst was great under the lights, mostly standing, in those days when I was a lad.

Indeed RIP Doris, a player who made the most of his ability. Always willing to put his body on the line (not to mention quite a few of the opponents' as well). Fond memories of him in my early days supporting Palace as a young man.

I remember him when he first played for us as a centre forward and he was openly mocked by the fans as seemed hopeless and too lightweight for that position.Great credit to him when whoever suggested he would be better at playing at right back he transformed himself into a very capable player in that position. I have great memories of watching him play and was shocked to here of his death at such an early age RIP.
