It's all very well blaming the ref and VAR lads, but our play lost us that game.

We were too slow to get started and missed at least 3 fine opportunities. OK, so that was never a penalty.......but.

Dad and I watched games standing on the muddy slope of the Holmesdale Road end. He cheered and I rattled.

A final point on this debacle. Why is it that the only three people on the planet who thought it was a penalty are Jota, Friend and the VAR to55er?

I just don’t get how a system designed to get rid of sh1te decisions has actually created more since its existence?

This is the correct, calm assessment of the game

We don’t need a calm assessment of the game, we need a calm explanation of that refs performance.

We couldn’t moan about losing. They completely dominated us for half an hour. Gave away really poor first goal, and then contrived to miss two good chances before half time. Second half we should have taken more than one of our chances, and who knows, might even have won the game.
The sickener is the pen, we were still in with a chance ,Liverpool, we’re on the back foot, and we had a definite chance to get a point. That is until the pen that wasn’t.
We might have lost the game, but that pen that wasn’t got them off of any sort of hook they might have been on for the final eight minutes or so. Very worrying that any ref should see that as a pen let alone the two that gave it.

To be fair, I don't think even Jota thought it was a penalty. It must have brought back memories for Benteke and the days of cheating for Liverpool.

Klopp being rather insincere in post match interview saying "If VAR and the referee said it was a penalty then it must be". Vieira storming ahead to cut off Friend in the tunnel. Derry seemed to be pulling on the knuckle dusters.

Sorry but bollox.

2 dodgy goals that never were. It doesn't matter that liverpool won the 1st half hour. We won the next hour.

But for that cnut Freind it could have been a draw or even win. Even the liverpool channel conceded we were unlucky.

I am utterly speechless at that refereeing performance. He ruined what was a good game with that 'penalty' (what a joke).
Good second half performance, we gave them far too much respect in the first 45 mins. Maybe even deserved a draw by the end.
Cheers Kevin you'll be getting your bonus from the PL board this weekend!

I don’t think there is any argument mate about how the match panned out. It was easy to understand what went wrong and we did spurn chances, but we were badly wronged by the ref today and there is no other way of describing that.

At half-time I'd have agreed, but by full-time I think we have every right to say the officials had a big hand in the loss. On one occasion Benteke is played through and is onside behind the defence, but the linesman calls it offside straight away rather than allowing play to go on. Prior to that Olise sustains a clear head/neck injury but Friend doesn't call a halt until Liverpool's attack breaks down. These are two of many incidents that got less attention but showed either Friend and his officials were poor, or biased. The penalty will get the headlines but everything went Liverpool's way today from handball decisions, to fouls, to bookings and to offside calls.

With regard to the penalty, you instantly saw the pressure lift once they scored it. Before that they were miscuing passes and panicking, so who is to say we wouldn't have equalised? The pen killed the game.
