Apart from that one passage of play against Brighton we were total sh1t for the rest of the game. Our form over the last eleven games is poor and we’re conceding soft goals. I’m pleased we’ve got a cushion but as others have pointed out we’ve got five points less than at the same stage last season and some very tough looking home fixtures. No room for complacency

There are those fiercely critical of the penalty decision against Liverpool but in the build up to the incident we were exposed by a long ball over the top which Jota ran on to between Ward and Andersen.
Furthermore another goal conceded from a corner.
Cause for concern.

Roy wasn’t sacked by Palace, he left because he thought he was getting too old for the Job. I am surprised he is going to Watford, I just hope he doesn’t nick points of us, boring he maybe but he knows how to win games.

Seriously ageist statement, coming from a woke lefty. I'm guessing that the "working for a living" is your real concern here?

What odds Watford finishing above Palace after 38 games. 10 points behind us, 2 games in hand and have to play us twice?

Slim chance and no chance. And Slim just left town.

Not sure why his age is such a big factor for everyone.

So what he is 74? Ageism is really a thing. He is not the one needing to run around and play. If the players respect him and listen to his ideas, that's all that matters. What has his age got to do with it.

If he was incontinent and losing his marbles, but there are people in their 30's who are incontinent and losing their marbles.

Spot on. Roy loves to work, it's what keeps him going.

...he'd have a good shot at running for US President.

Absolute rubbish, think top 10 because that’s where we will finish up and a reward for the brand of football we are playing. Against Brighton every player touched the ball for our goal. If that was Man City the papers would still be writing about it. We came mighty close to drawing if not beating the ‘mighty’ Liverpool.

Odds are Watford will finish above us, where does that leave us. Think people need to realise, we need to start winning a few games, playing nice football doesnt stop you being relegated. We have only won 5 out of 22 games, 2 of those against 10 men.

This appointment would suggest that when he left us it was not because he wanted to retire but because the board had not offered him another contract. I wish him well (apart from against us), but he must know that even by premier league standards, the life of a Watford manager is never very long or particularly happy.

Indeed. However poor the decision (even Clattenburg said this was an incorrect decision and the Ox goal should not have stood - and he hates Palace) it does rather mask our absolute need for a right back. Full credit to Joel for his sterling service but he’s not really good enough these days. On corners I’m also very nervous. Why would we put Jeff Schlupp on Van-Dyke, for example? Can’t quite put my finger on it but would have loved Roy’s views on our corner defence set up..

Tactically I think we have to mix it up. Liverpool were playing so high that a few long diagonal balls of our own might have taken the pressure off the back line and given Liverpool something else to consider. We did this more in the 2nd half - rather than always playing with it at the back - and it did give them some issues. Having said that Liverpool are a really good side and if we can play the rest of the season with the intensity we showed in the second half I’ll be delighted.

You could say a Roy team may not have conceded the goals against Liverpool, but one thing is for sure and that is he would not have done much to fix it if his team had been down 2-0 at half-time and would generally look to consolidate and wait until at least the 70th minute before doing anything. Vieira perhaps could have reacted quicker on Sunday, but in fairness Liverpool were on fire with one-touch football and a pass success rate of something like 92% at half-time.

I'm not saying Vieira should be beyond reproach but I find it genuinely baffling that some people have started to question his position. He's a young manager learning his trade who has had to overhaul a squad and introduce a new style of play on a relatively small budget in PL terms. Look at the teams above us, only Southampton have spent less in recent years. This is the main reason I generally supported Roy even when I got sick of his brand of football. Eventually money does matter in the PL. It's the same reason Roy will find it hard to keep Watford up and why Norwich will probably go down. It may even be one step too far for Burnley this time around.

Good luck to Roy, but I've enjoyed the football at Palace under Vieira more than I have done since Pardew's crazy first six months.

Given Roy's average win ratio I suspect they will end up with just under 36points if it goes to plan - maybe not enough - who knows.
Thankfully we don't play them for a long while, so no new Manager bounce against us for once!
