Sad that like a lot of players his life seems to have spiralled a bit this is not his first brush with the law.

I hope he gets it together.

He did pretty well considering the tough job of, replacing Jurgen Klinsmann and I don’t think Teddy Sheringham made him very welcome.

Never reached the heights he should have. Great player.

For anyone who didn't see Armstrong play for us, he really was extremely special. For a couple of years he was almost unplayable - lighting quick, could dribble, had a rocket of a shot in either foot, and brilliant at diving headers (when was the last time you saw one of those, by the way?!).

Quite possibly the most complete centre forward I've ever seen in a Palace shirt. I shudder to think what he'd be worth in today's market.

And now he's swinging for a bloke who works in a supermarket because he can't buy fags. Jesus.

Excellent and interesting point. Can't help but think back to myself as young lad in Lewisham and the hours of practice I put into throwing the ball ahead of myself in the garden and mastering the skill of successfully completing a diving header without injuring myself!

Now Zaha's got a bit of green grass ahead of him here... and finds Ambrose... not a bad effort!!!!

Yes, it's sad the path he's gone down now. So common in sports though, it can't be easy to lose the primary talent you're known for and all that comes bundled with it.

Not everyone had your diligence. During my Croydon Sunday league years I once saw two opposing players both launch into a diving header from opposite sides of the ball. Luckily for them (but disappointingly for fans of comical injuries) they both contacted either side of the tough old mitre delta simultaneously, repelling both back to where they had started from. It was like when you try and push two magnets together.

He was a fantastic striker.

I have the Matchball from an away League game at Spurs when Chris scored a quite brilliant solo goal (run and shot into the bottom corner). I think we won 1-0…or we may have drawn 1-1?

It’s signed by the Palace players and our manager, although the signatures are starting to fade a bit now.

FFS...
Sometimes being a smart arse and thinking you are funny ??
Just wrong on so many levels when obviously he has mental health issues. As a one time Palace legend (and he was a special player for us, believe me) show some fekkin dignity instead of making cheap jokes about a human that needs help with his issues...
Despite earning well in the past the pictures show that the poor sod is on his arse..
Jayzuz H Christ, We are palace fans, a community that should be looking out for each other..
What is next.. A few puns about suicide or Bipolar..
Saddened...

"Numb, gutted and shocked . Three words that sum up how I feel."
"Passionate, principled, genius. Three words that sum up Joe Strummer"

I don't want to be uncharitable as he was a brilliant player. However I remember he had personal problems while he was with us and was dropped for personal reasons for at least 1 game minutes before kick off. Shortly after that he was sold to spurs for a far lower price than had previously discussed
The rumour was we wanted him gone
