It’s a shame because I never see him appear on anyone’s best eleven when those threads or tweets pop up. I suppose older fans will always have Wright and Bright up front, then that generation that’s a bit younger will always go for Freedman, Morrison or AJ. Armstrong sort of fell inbetween

Just wrong on so many levels when obviously he has mental health issues. As a one time Palace legend (and he was a special player for us, believe me) show some fekkin dignity instead of making cheap jokes about a human that needs help with his issues...
Despite earning well in the past the pictures show that the poor sod is on his arse..
Jayzuz H Christ, We are palace fans, a community that should be looking out for each other..
What is next.. A few puns about suicide or Bipolar..
Saddened...

Genuine question: what makes you say he has mental health issues? Why isn't he (for example) a spoiled, overindulged brat? Or a nasty aggressive bully?

I'm not saying he's either (never met him) but would be interested to know why so many people are wishing him the best of luck in getting his life back on track. Why is he a source of sympathy?

Because whatever his circumstances he’s pulled a palace shirt on which makes him one of our own and he was a bloody good player for us

I had a friend who was sadly killed by a bipolar bear.

Now Zaha's got a bit of green grass ahead of him here... and finds Ambrose... not a bad effort!!!!

Sorry if you misinterpreted my post but I dont recall mentioning being sympathetic or anything of the kind....
Putting your own spin on my words? .. Hey if thats good for you then I am fine with that Mr Punt..
In response to you "being interested" .. Its simple... Some of us are old enough to remember that he was good and very good for us as was Kenny Sansom...
Obviously issues with both eh?
If as you state, Armstrong is a "nasty aggressive bully" then getting him proper help and definitely not sympathy would and should be the obvious way forward ...
Please feel free to put a twist on this and forgive me if I spelt your name incorrectly...

Everybody deserves a chance. Even ex footballers. People can change, I've been told.

Yeah I get what you mean. Armstrong does get overlooked slightly when it comes to top Palace strikers... In my opinion he was certainly better than Freedman and Morrison and probably AJ as well.

He was literally unplayable for a couple of seasons.. He was strong, great in the air, could finish with both feet and for a guy who was 6'1" he had unbelievable pace that very few players in football could match...

Very sad to see things ending up like this..

Don't waste your time with jealousy. Sometimes your ahead, sometimes your behind, the race is long. But in the end it's only with yourself!!

I thought he was a good player for us, seems to have lost his way. I can’t think of many players that have left Palace and gone onto bigger and better things apart from Ian Wright and Gareth Southgate.

Just for clarification I am myself what is now described as 'part of this [manic depression/bipolar] community' and for further clarification I have managed to live a fairly successful life so far although not without incident (may also explain some of my more bizarre posts on here).

Armstrong may very well have a mental health condition that is affecting his life in which case he needs the appropriate help or just as possible may be a TW@ who failed to make the most of fantastic life circumstances.

Either way I wish the best for him, those around him and would humbly suggest that a combination of being both professionally qualified and close enough to Armstrong would probably be necessary for anyone to diagnose, explain or ridicule his circumstances or equally 'defend' him or his actions... no pun intended. Once again do wish him all the best of course.

It's such a weird profession. You spend half the week with nothing to do, earn enough to keep you kept for a lifetime, but then for most players you're pretty much done by 32. How do you ever hope to replicate the experience of 25,000+ fans cheering for you? Or the emotion of scoring an important goal at home? It's not that I have sympathy, just that it must be a really hard throne to climb down off, especially if at some point you reached the very top.

I remember seeing his hat-trick when we beat Portsmouth 5-1 (Southgate also scored a worldie that game). I was gutted when he left for Spurs.
