Mitchell has been our outstanding player this half. Why are our centre-backs taking the goal kicks, has Guaita got an injury?

Mediocre and disappointing from both sides.
Ayew probably selected over Olise to give Ward some protection from Rico Henry who is very fleet of foot.

None of them should play in the first place.

Who would you play instead then?

HOW - ON - EARTH - is it possible for PV til make us play so bad.

Does he order players NOT to hit the target, NOT to direct passes to teammates (Brentford players seems to be the preferred destination), not to move or pass the ball forward.

Pretty lucky not to be down by a couple of goals.

At present we are at best a mediocre championship side.

I feel bad for keep digging him out, but Schlupp was pointless in that first half. He's probably one of our quickest players yet when teams break he jogs back. People have been giving Zaha stick but he worked so hard that first half and only he and Mitchell stood out in what was a very passive first half. Get Schlupp off and get McArthur on to add some leadership as right now it's missing.

Ward is one of the weakest passers of the ball in our squad which is an issue when you want to play out from the back. He's also the slowest, which given Andersen isn't quick either is a problem. Ayew looks a bit out of it. It's weird that our best player of late is on the bench, but I guess Vieira feels he can afford to manage his progress. Edouard has had no service so far. He must be getting very frustrated. Gallagher seems to be struggling to get involved.

As I said before, I think the thing we're missing most is leadership on the pitch. Brentford have been poor in position, but if the game continues like it has been they look the more likely to score. On the plus side Zaha seems to have the bit between his teeth.

Has Ayew actually given any protection? He seems a bit cut adrift and doesn't have Olise's pace, attacking aggression or directness. If he doesn't improve dramatically in the first 10 minutes then surely Olise has to come on?

Yes, poor, but look on the bright side:

We haven't conceded yet and we are a second half team ....

There is a view that Ayew has better defensive qualities than Olise.
