Zaha and Olise teamed up really well and both had chances to score that perhaps they should have taken. Those asking why Zaha was up top should maybe look back to the Etihad where Zaha also started as the main striker and was very effective. The reality is he works a lot harder than Mateta and Bentenke, retains the ball better than all three strikers and can create something out of nothing, which he almost did again today. When you're pushed deep against the big teams you either have to hit direct balls to a big man to try and hold up (which to be frank none of our forwards have done well at this season) or you rely on quick breaks and use someone like Wilf through the middle.

Defensively we were really solid for most of the game and barely game Chelsea a sniff. The goal was poor, but Mitchell will hopefully learn from that as by and large he contained one of the most in-form players in Europe as he did against Salah.

I have few complaints today as considering the opposition we looked good enough for at least a draw and I also think this 4-2-3-1 formation could potentially get the best out of our creative players. Against Watford hopefully Wilf will replace Schlupp on the left and one of the strikers comes back in.

With regard to the officials, how Chelsea didn't get more bookings only the PL gods can tell you. Ok the ref missed a lot of fouls (especially by Rudiger) but Olise commits one foul and gets booked whereas some Chelsea players committed 4 or 5 each without barely a talking to. The linesman somehow missed the double foul on Ayew by Rudiger when it literally took place at his feet! Also, once again we saw the bigger teams getting away with the tactic of fouls every time we try and break. Ayew was stopped from breaking free at least four times with Sarr not getting a booking until really late on. Vieira was apoplectic at one point for Chelsea using this tactic.

Indeed! That was the biggest cheek of the whole game!!!!

I think we are in a bit of bother now. Only 3 games left where we look to have a chance of points Watford twice and Burnley and both these teams have their tails up

An expected result today but a good showing overall spoiled by a momentary late lapse in attention.

We get Watford away next then Burnley at home. Both are must wins. Lose them and we're in trouble; the run of games after them are not looking good for us given those teams' current form.

Success will lie to you but failure always tells you the truth.

Just back from the match - what a choker! We held our own through the second half. I couldn't really see what happened with their goal - the cross seemed to float in the air and drop clear of our last defender before the Chelski whacked it in. Was the ball held up by the wind or did our last man just misjudge it?
Shame about Wilf's miss in first half added time. I thought the angle was very narrow until I saw the replay at half time. I really think he should have got it on target. Another one of those might-have-been matches that we keep getting against top teams.
Very disappointing indeed and now Wednesday looks massive.

Mitchell attacked the ball but missed it leaving Ziyech alone to score. Ward has been guilty of that too this season. That aside he had a really good game again. I do think if Wilf had scored the one in the first half it would have been ruled out for a foul on Kante earlier in the move. Fine margins today. Wilf and Olise take their chances and we could have snatched a win.

We've dropped 8 points after the 85th minute this season, enough to put us 9th and above Brighton. We're not going down but 2 wins and 4 draws from our last 13 league games isn't good enough, it's relegation form.

I'm absolutely behind Vieira and have enjoyed this season far more than the last few but we simply must start scoring more given the attacking talent we have.

Also, Mitchell played well overall today but it has to be said that both the disallowed and given goals were both a result of him not tracking Ziyech running in behind him.

We were somewhere around Barstow, on the edge of the desert, when the drugs began to take hold...

Next thing I'll be hearing is look what Roy is doing at Watford..!!

You seen/compared our fixtures for the rest of the season against the sides around us - clearly not or you wouldn't have made that comment..!!

I can't help feeling some on here are just itching for us to fail/be in trouble..!!

Rant over..!!

COYP

of course you entitled to you ''Rant'' but the facts are that we have not won since 28/12, of course we all want us to stay up, but losing when you have defended well for 89 minutes in a game you were not expected to win is another point thrown away and the reason we are throwing points away is because we cannot score. the football is great to watch but that really does now need to be turned in to wins, we can't control or rely on other teams to keep us up we have to do it ourselves, both Burnley and Watford gained three points on us today by winning games that on form that should have not!

Chelsea fouls 20, Palace 4. I think that says a lot about today's game. When you consider there were at least another 4 or 5 blatant fouls that weren't given, such as the one on Wilf. For such a team full of talent their defensive work outside the penalty area basically involved fouling the opposition. But only 3 bookings! A joke.

I thought we were going to draw and we should have done. Yet again one of our full backs lost concentration at the end of the match and we gave away a goal against the run of play. Chelsea’s former achievements are irrelevant when it comes to this match. We were worse than them for 40 minutes, matched them for 30 and bossed them for the balance. Yes we deserved a draw but we failed to see the game out….again!

They are a better team than us, we all know it. Not one of our players would get in their team.
We played well, but had no killer touch, they do, thats the difference.

I'll accept the back four and to some extent the midfield accounted for themselves but up front... not one shot on target! I think PV overplayed his hand in the 2nd. half, I would have stifled the middle as much as possible with Hughes and Luka because they were walking it through late on.

Defo not Luca - loool

Those saying it was a decent performance - not really, zero attempts on target tells its own story. Ball fell nicely for Zaha but his two scuffers weren't going in. And there was no one up with play for him to square the ball to (not that he would have).
Their goal at the end was kind of inevitable, a big floated ball in the box that, as so often this season, no defender deals with.
The next two games are vital.

There may be incidents which are doubtful or harder to detect for the ref on the pitch from a distance. But this double-foul on Ayew was literally in front of the eyes of the linesman. A ref in boxing couldn`t been much closer. An absolute joke!
