He did touch it, and it was going out (if not out already). For the person that says it's irrelevant, it isn't! If the ball was already out and the goalie touched Conor, is it a penalty? No!

The incident took place directly ahead of where I was standing.

Whether CG had the ball under control or not ( he didn't ), the contact made on him by Foster could have been given as a penalty. Not too dis-similar to the Jota decision that went against us.

Was it even reviewed by VAR ? No. And while the people in charge of VAR are the same people that make inconsistent decisions when they are refereeing, we aren't going to see the best use of that technology.

As I have previously elucidated, whenever there are subjective decisions there will always be accusations of "Inconsistency" etc etc.

Yes there will be and rightly so.

It's been the main complaint about officials, from players and spectators, ever since I can remember.

I've only watched the full game on Palace TV, but I thought Gallagher's reaction was interesting - a sort of 'hopeful look at the ref but not really expecting anything to be given' look as if he didn't really think it was a penalty. I wonder to what extent the fouled/allegedly fouled player's reaction has on a ref's decision.

If it was not too dissimilar to the jota decision, then it should not have been given. I don't think it was - CG made no effort to initiate contact, the keeper was late into the challenge. That's a free kick if outside the box. does it matter where the ball was going? not sure.
50/50 for me. The ref couldn't have given it either way, and wouldn't have been overturned whichever decision he made.

I've got no problem if we get 'inconsistent' VAR decisions if the inconsistency is born from improving past mistakes.

Why has no-one even mentioned in the CG/Foster incident, there was a Watford defender(No14 Hassele) also involved? There will always be inconsistency, as believe it or not Refs are Human Beings. Humans make mistake, Humans view things differently, even on these boards/threads everyone has a different view/take on the same incident.
As for, was it a pen, no. Could've it been a pen, yes. If the ref's opinion was, that either Foster OR Hassele had 'deliberatly' fouled CG, then irrespective of where the ball was/went or who touched it, then, Yes, it would be a pen.

Unfortunately, Clyne was blocking him from being able to get to the ball in an attempt to mark a player.

No he wasn’t but unfortunately Butland got involved with the man Clyne was marking when he didn’t need to. The ball dropped well short of where Clyne was and Butland had a clear pathway.

Really, you'd take a point at home against Burnley who are third from bottom.....

Given their form and the fact that a point will hurt them more than it hurts us, yes.

Ha ha not much I reckon. Every player always claims its there throw in, claims they got the ball when penalised for fouling, claims they have done nothing wrong etc etc

I think that's the bigger issue, not whether it was a penalty or not but the fact VAR either didn't look at it at all, or gave it 5 seconds of attention. In contrast, when it comes to the big teams VAR seems to do a forensic analysis.

Exactly.

For the sake of clarity, I didn't think it was a penalty, but then again I didn't think the Jota incident was one either.

The only 3 people on the planet who thought the Jota incident was a foul, were Klopp and the two match officials and even one of them changed his mind.
