I suspect its part of it.

Potentially symbolic like others have said, but its a part of everything we are doing at the club. Trusting in youth, looking to the future etc.

Its help us look like the sort of project other young prospects want to be part of

Often I think its a managers way of firing up a player. When PV gave it to Wilf he was saying " come on your our main man, our leader, we beleive in you". It may well be more of a long term thing with Guehi, who has captained England U21's before, and as has been said Lukas days may be numbered. I like the idea of the captain being a centre half he can see all the play in front of him.

For my mind McArthur is the obvious captain. Age and experience for one, but more importantly he is the most vocal player in the squad. Finally he has that grit and fight you want from a leader.
