We managed to score three up there with Benteke playing and missed a couple of good chances on top.

Maybe the thinking was that Burnley could handle a so called 'Target man' and having more mobility in forward areas might give them more problems.

Overall I believe that 4 pts from Watford and Burnley is a decent return but of course disappointed not to have beaten the latter at home.

Absolutely agree Willo, the 4 points from the last two games, have been much needed especially as we have some difficult games coming up where points will be difficult!

Yes and it's the sort of fouling that prevents us from gaining any advantage when teams are stretched and I know we do it as well but it's the fact that some teams use it practically every single time we cause them issues, it's cheating and the officials do nothing just like the Chelsea game no warning words or cards come out and we end up with silly free kicks with the opposition sitting pretty in front of us, sinbin, sinbin, sinbin it's the only way to stamp it out fair and square.

But if refs won't give yellow cards for cynical fouls, they are hardly going to be willing to send players off for 10 minutes, are they?

Not the best of games.

Selecting Luka came as a big surprise. I thought he did ok in the first half, but his own goal was highly avoidable and a game changer.

We all know what to expect from Burnley and I thought PV made a good tactical call in not giving their centre backs a target man to mark. It worked well for the first 45, but once level, Burnley were allowed to revert to their usual s***house selves. Had we have not conceded so quickly after half time, we may have benefited more from them having to chase the game - not to be.

It's becoming clear that the longer PV has had with the squad, the more he is selecting a starting eleven that he believes is best from a tactical perspective.

This is a correct interpretation of the tactics employed as subsequently confirmed by Vieira.
The tactics worked in the first half when we should have been 2 goals ahead.
Mee and Tarkowski excel when playing against big target men they can mark and challenge physically.
We made them virtually redundant in the first half and Vieira pointed out that Schlupp and Gallagher were tasked with making late runs into the box where they may not be picked up.
This worked for the Schlupp goal, but we didn't do enough of it.
Their early goal in the second half unsettled us and we ended up playing the game they wanted us to play i.e lots of head tennis, scrappy interludes.
For me the key to these games is going two ahead when we're dominating. At 1-0 we are always vulnerable through a mistake, a set piece or some bad luck.

Spot on Patrick both with regard to the tactics and our performance in the two halves. We called the tune in the first half but then allowed Burnley to dictate the style of play in the second. I hate to admit it but over the 90 minutes a draw was probably a fair result, although not the right one, of course.

I’m with you, and so it proved! Luke his usual inept self, the only time he put the ball forward was into the goal. No target man. Poor formation but improved after the substitutions.

I disagree. First half we were clearly the better team. Although we didn’t create that many chances apart from an early shot from Lennon Burnley didn’t have a sniff. I missed the equaliser as I was finishing my half time pint but it changed the game and for the next 25 mins we just couldn’t get going and Burnley brought us down to their level. Towards the end we were starting to find our rhythm again but it was too little too late. Luka looked sharp in the first half as did our whole midfield. We have a squad so PV has used it. 4 points and 5 goals in 2 key fixtures is a decent return. We are 66/1 in a place for relegation which provides a clear indication that we are unlikely to go down.
We have quality throughout our team. If we can cut out the odd mistake that always seems to cost us we are a match for anyone in this league.

A few personal thoughts 24 hours on:

I left 15 minutes early, partly because my hands were frozen and partly because I was watching the most dire "football" I've seen this season.

Olise seemed to me to become a little less effective as the game wore on, but whether that's because of his rough-house treatment or because they had worked out how to deal with a little better I don't know.

As many have said, Andersen had a nightmare afternoon. He couldn't put a foot right - or his head. How many times have we remarked on his ability to play the ball out constructively?

One of my favourite moments was seeing Wilf sprint 40 or 50 yards to put pressure on an opponent. What a change in the man!

I have not been impressed with Anderson at all.
I accept he can pass the ball but is found wanting in the art of defending.

Really tired of this sort of comment week in week out. Hope the ref takes action? How about having a captain that is politely in the ref's ear: "Ref that's the third foul in as many minutes , do you think they are rotationally fouling our player?". And of course there's always the option to dish it back in return should the ref not do his duty.

Can you elaborate please? Genuinely keen to hear how that's avoidable...just looked like plain bad luck to me.

It’s a squad game.

then Surely Eduoard should have started. Didn't play on Wed night and has scored in his last 3 home games. Not playing a big striker v Burnley made some sense so i though Eddie would have been the obvious choice
