In most games you would have noticed we like to attack from the flanks, rarely through the middle hence, why Butland and Guiata hardly kicked the ball upfield passed the central circle. This is another reason why we like to play up from the back via the wingers and the oppositions have sussed that out.

I don't want to add to the doom and gloom views being expressed on here. It certainly wasn't a thrilling match and there may be questions about team selection, but we always knew it wouldn't be easy.

Fact is, we won in dreadful conditions. I wouldn't have wanted to play football out there last night. One of the most shocking sights for me was the BBC camera panning, a couple of times, on the busted drain pipe on the main stand showing rain pouring onto the supporters who had to move elsewhere.

Not a very good image for us to present to the world as a long standing Premier League football club. The sooner Mr Parish and his colleagues can move forward with the plans for a stadium overhaul, the better.

A wet Tuesday night against a hard working championship side was never going to be a classic but guess what! We’re in the quarterfinals of the FA cup! Vieira is trying things out. He gave a young lad his debut and coached him from the sidelines encouraging him to get forward when he was obviously hesitant then subbed him after an hour or so with an obvious experience replacement In Schlupp. Sensible management.

He tried giving Olise a free role in the centre of midfield. Not sure that worked so well as we were exposed down the flank at times and lacking control in midfield. He addressed that by bringing Gallagher on for Ayew allowing Olise to move back to his normal role which worked pretty well. Gallagher didn’t really sort the problem in midfield as he was having one of his headless chicken nights so he brought on Milo as a holding midfielder and Jairo more forward. Hughes was having a poor night so had to come off and Kouyate always looks like he doesn’t quite have the ball under control so I guess he thought Jairo being more technical might get hold of it an play Gallagher or Olise in more. I’m sure Jairo getting the winner wasn’t in his thinking but he’ll take it!

So PV tried a few things. Some worked and some didn’t. He made changes when they were needed (How many times did we complain because Roy didn’t make changes!). In the end we got the result so well done PV!

I for one am feeling glad all over!

Nice post. Hard to disagree with. I think we all forget that it was a horrid night against a team that were playing out of their skins

I was wondering if Wilf was even on the pitch in the first half. Everything was coming down the Rh side. We desperately needed to get the Lh side going. The young lad was nervous about getting forward and we really missed Tyrick on the left. No doubt about that.

That, I'm thinking is Why Schluppy was brought on.
