They have fast tracked sanctions which freeze the oligarchs assets. In Chelsea’s case they have said it can have a special license to sell so long as RA gets no proceeds. He had already announced he would give the sale proceeds to assist victims of the war. Technically he is still owner of the frozen assets, Chelsea. He will need to agree the terms of the license and the sale can then progress. Wasnt it introduced after that Man City owner ( a Thai fellah I think ) was indicted in his own country for fraud or something & he had to sell Man City quickly ? Originally posted by Nicholas91

Sanctions against individuals have been around for decades and I suspect there have been many court cases to test their legality. RA has been sanctioned by a new law passed by Parliament with the backing of all major parties so I doubt the courts will throw that out especially as it follows UN guidance / international law. He has not lost his assets they are frozen and in time he may get them back. He can let Chelsea go bust but I doubt that it is in his interest. He might well sell the club and negotiate with the government over the proceeds e.g. does he donate to charity or are they parked in a frozen account in the hope he can retrieve them in years to come. (We still have Iranian money from the seventies). If he takes any legal action his best bet will be not to overturn the ban but the detail e.g. Chelsea should be allowed more revenue than the current sanctions. The government has already indicated that the current rules are valid until the end of May so there is wiggle room there for compromise especially as no mention has been made over next season. Chelsea fans singing RA's name again at Norwich last night. They have every right to be upset at the plight of their club right now but they seriously need to pull their heads out of their bums. I don't have sympathy for them. They were happy to turn a blind eye to their owners background all the time he was ploughing money into the club and now it's come back to bite them. Quite frankly they deserve everything they're going to get.

A slightly random comment, but one of my best mates at school was a Chelsea fan and a genuinely nice bloke. As we grew into our teens he did for a short period turn into a bit of a c u next tuesday and I (with others) had to reign him in. Was a Chelsea fan as his Dad was and I think he started trying to emulate him. His Dad was notoriously known for being a pr!ck amongst just about everyone I ever spoke to.

The "British" (it's actually the UK) government had and still has nothing to do with the football fit and proper criteria and their application. Furthermore, before you cry too much about the fate of a handful of members of the Russian mafia, perhaps take a few moments to consider where the REAL sad state of affairs is taking place; an illegal invasion of a sovereign state, with the murder of thousands and the displacement of millions of innocent citizens.

And asking price seems pretty irrelevant given Abramovich can’t make any money out of it. Getting it too cheap gains an unfair advantage. See West Ham and the Olympic stadium.

Better late than never and it’s the fault of the premier league passing these people fit and proper. I’m all for any of these people thrown out at any moment. The sooner the better. The Newcastle argument that they’re allowed to have their owners and we can’t just sums the whole sh1t show of immaturity when it comes to winning trophies it’s embarrassing.
