We just remember when we get the occasional win against the big boys and forget all the expected defeats. Likewise we remember the poor performances against rubbish teams and forget the expected wins.

This season we took 4 points off Man City but 0 from Liverpool, Chelsea...

Top clubs play more open, and allow us chances to counterattack. Sh-t clubs park the bus against us, and we usually don't have the quality finishing to break them down.

Agree with this and the fact we cherry pick the results. We have got 4 points off Man city this year but none last year losing 0-6 across the two games, we haven't got anything from Liverpool this year or last year, 1-15 across the four games.

...except in response to the previous seasons thing - Royball often meant we won ugly against the teams Parking the bus. Ceding possession and riding our luck all game but managing to nick a goal somewhere.

You are right with Roy, but we had 27% possession last night and 32% when we beat them so we can’t exactly say we didn’t park the bus, it is just that this year the bus is slightly fancier, more like a nippy electric City bus rather than the diesel powered 2b route master that used to struggle up Central Hill to Crystal Palace. We are able to press high with Gallagher to create chances which we didn’t last year and Guehi and Andersen can play out from the back meaning we don’t just have to lump balls at Benteke to try and hold up.
The result that sums up the difference for me is wolves, we beat them with 37 % away but beat them at home with 60% and in both games looked comfortable. We have a plan b now which with no disrespect to Roy who did a great job. I doubted last year.
My point is it is easy to have a bit of recency bias and think why can we do this against Man City but not Burnley and Brentford but that ignores we couldn’t do it against Chelsea or Liverpool and we have done it against Watford, Norwich and Everton
So far, we have 12 points from 18 against the bottom 4 clubs, arguable that should have been 14 if Wilf hadn’t slipped against Norwich, Burnley away wasn’t down to use not being able to break down a tight organised defence we scored 3 it was down to being rubbish on corners. We have only 5 points from 21 against the top 4 clubs.
