Following the news wire below can be misleading!

Pretty much all the Olise and Mitchell stories are just one story regurgitated by other outlets. Personally doubt anyone will be in for Olise this time around anyway. A youthful wide player is exactly what Arsenal are not looking for - they have trouble fitting in the 3 they have already. He's also at that stage where he's unlikely to go anywhere he isn't going to get football. Much the same applies to the Mitchell story. He's an increasingly tidy player but would be second choice at any club that outranked us in the market.

The time may come for both of them - and Guehi and Eze - a year or so down the line but having trawled other clubs forums there are very very few references to them right now.

...We have to end this mentality of settling for less than we're worth. We HAVE had a great season, no doubt about it. BUT with the players we now have (young, talented, and energetic), the style of football we're playing, the manager that's leading us, owners who genuinely support the club, and a fan base that's among the best in the country someone needs to say 11th/12th place and a good cup run is NOT ENOUGH.

We need to get into the top ten because right now, we BELONG there. And it shouldn't be a one-off achievement; the top ten would reflect our status as, reasonably right now, one of the top ten clubs in the PL. And we need to win something; anything, because over a century has been far too long for a club of our stature to have never won a major trophy at all. Ipswich has. Southampton has. Coventry has. Leicester has. Nottingham Forest has. We belong in, at least, that tier of clubs. And we need to get into Europe, too, even if it's the Conference League.

So with where we are right now, I'm NOT prepared to settle for less than we're worth. We've been on the edge of this sort of success before (1980, 1990) and failed to press on and go over the top. Not this time, please. It's been a brilliant season, yes, but it's NOT ENOUGH yet. We need to show some ambition for ourselves, and act like we belong. Let's make this year the start of a platform for the sustained success we've earned and deserve. Not the end of the journey of improvement, but just the beginning of being what CPFC ought to be.

The issue for me, as we pause to reflect, is that our club has become very noticeable in the media. From being one of the makeweights in the Premier League, we have become high profile. Even Hartlepool know about us now!

Our manager is now talked about in glowing terms, rightly so, but a year ago I doubt any of us considered him to be our next manager. The issue is that, because he has done so well in transforming the way we play and guiding our young talent, he is going to be on the radar of clubs looking for a new boss. He seems to be enjoying his journey with Palace, but we need to hang on to him.

The same goes for our players. The Mail today ran a piece about the Crystal Palace talent factory. Dougie and his team have done a remarkable job in bringing in fresh, young talent. The likes of Mitchell, Guehi and, of course, Gallagher on loan. These three are getting the film star treatment now they have been selected to play for England. Eze will be next. If they weren't already in the sights of scouts here and abroad they will be now. We know Gallagher will return to Chelsea, but we need to keep and develop the exciting players that we now so enjoy watching. It's been said elsewhere that we don't want to do a Southampton and sell off our best players just when we're getting the most out of them.

So, whilst it's great to see our club earning well deserved recognition, we don't want to see it work against us. I agree with Syd above. We are good enough now to take on the big boys and we need to be recognised as belonging to the big boy's band so our manager and players will want to stay and not do what Wilf thought he wanted when he said he was keen to join a big club like Everton.

Let's hope the present set up, with Mr Parish at the helm, continues to develop and flourish. And that includes a new stadium and a decent pitch!
