Giggs liked to play 'away'.

Barnes chose England over Jamaica and Giggs chose his sister in law over his wife

Ryan Giggs was born & brought up in Cardiff & moved to Manchester when he was six years old as his father moved to play for a Rugby League team in that area.
He did play & captain England schoolboys but was known as Ryan Wilson in them days but took his mothers surname after an acrimonious split from his father Danny Wilson....
He would not have been eligible to play for England in them days..

At the time of Barnes' international career, FIFA's national team eligibility criteria allowed British passport holders to represent one of the British football associations if they had no blood ties to the United Kingdom. Barnes had already planned to represent England where he had lived since the age of 12.
Barnes was apparently named after Welsh great John Charles.
It happened with Eric Young & as a British citizen who was born abroad in Singapore the FIFA eligibility rules at the time of Young's first international selection entitled him to represent any of the constituent countries of the United Kingdom at international level & he opted for Wales, despite having no specific family connection to that country.

Incorrect he chose to play for Wales he has even said this he turned down England call-up because it was not his place of birth.

A lot of places had run with false stories about he was not able to play for England which is untrue he even believed it himself but if you look at the rules he could of.

Would have been frustrating having Ryan Giggs playing for England. Ferguson used to pull him from the Wales squad at any given opportunity.

Giggs only played 65 times for Wales for his long career.

Contrast with Gareth Bale who has played over 100 times.
