Ofcom is our regulator. Not mine, or yours or any other critic of the BBC, but appointed to ensure the standards set by our government are adhered to.

Your opinion matters, but only in the same way that every opinion matters in a democracy.

Would you have the BBC regulated by Twitter or, heaven forbid, by those who populate these pages.

But it doesn't matter does it?. It's not as though we have the option of not paying.

It seems GB News have tripped up over their determination to be different. Why am I not surprised anyone else has yet commented on this?

If you present yourself as a reliable broadcaster then you need to behave like one, and make sure that what is said can be trusted.

[Link]

When your viewers tend to be the kind of people who post here, who are prone to use alternative "news" sources, and to believe conspiracy theories, it is very important that any regular media outlet doesn't spread misinformation.

In view of some recent comments in other threads this is especially pertinent at the moment. A couple of lines from the link makes the point very well:-

"It can be easy - and tempting - to cherry-pick real stats in a way that supports what we already believe.

Now Ofcom seems to be emphasising that, to borrow a phrase, we're all entitled to our own opinion but not to our own facts."

Luckily we have the impartial BBC to fall back on! None of their presenters would ever air views that were not impartial. Are you listening Linekar, Munchetty, Maitlis et al

You really don't like things that conflict with your prejudices, do you?

This is an important story. You might want to ignore it, but GB News will not be allowed to.

Making comments about me won't change that.

You do know Steyn has left GB News don’t you? He suffered 2 heart attacks and also fell out with management.
Maybe the BBC could consider “losing” some of their impartial presenters

I did tune in in fairness but I found it nauseating, a sort of toryboy fox news main duty to confirm their prejudices.

Which are plentiful.

Old tories never die, they just fade away.

Altough they always have a good old leftie on their panels, who are allowed to air their views. Other Channels should take note

The government gets roasted regularly.

The difference between GB News and the BBC and ITNs of this world is that it isn't bound by corporate wokery.

Exactly the Government regular get torn to shreds but, hey, let’s not let facts get in the way. Funny how so many left leaning posters on here seem to know a lot about GB News, are they secret admirers?

People are free to cancel booking or refuse agencies you say, yet on another recent thread you were parroting that a bakery should be forced to have political slogans on its cakes.

Who has had legal action instigated? You can even get arrested for silently praying these days and kids get police harassment for scuffing certain books.

It wasn't recent. No bakery should ever be forced to put anything on its cakes. The key word being "its". If the bakery makes a cake for someone else, having offered its services for reward, then the cake it makes isn't theirs. They have a free choice. Don't offer services to others and just sell their own offerings, or accept whatever their customers want. Unfortunately that common sense principle was not accepted by the Courts.

You can silently pray with no danger of arrest. What you cannot do is break the law in areas where restrictions have been put in place. Whenever there is a conflict of rights, one has to trump another. Same with books. You can heat your home with books you have scuffed in privacy. What you cannot do is take actions in public which are unlawful.

The law applies to us all, as those who believe they can choose anarchy at will tend to find out.

In the context of deliberately taking an action outside an abortion clinic which is designed to intimidate others and attract publicity, I don't believe the police would be the least interested in checking the faith of the transgressor.

The problem seems to be that only a tiny number of a certain type of evangelicals get obsessed with doing this. It's an infection which has been transmitted from the USA.

Yes I know. GB News wanted to distance themselves from what he said and make him liable for any costs that were levied. Which weren't.

The BBC exercise much greater editorial control over content broadcasted in its name. They even take action when presenters comment privately. As is happening today.

But we have no blasphemy laws - and it is not against any law to scuff any book in public or private,as far as I am aware.

It may upset certain people if this is done to a book they hold dear, but it is not illegal, therefore one wonders why a 14 year old, autistic boy now has a police warning on record, whilst those who made death threats against him (which is illegal) have none...

That's because many on the right seem not to like the direction of the current government, which is trying to steer a course away from the worst aspects of the last few years.

Observing any new channel, usually at a distance, makes sense if you are interested in politics and care about the future of our country. I think Farage is a wrong-minded, destructive, influence who has caused us immense harm, but I want to know what he is up to.
