Dvds and blu rays

Just having a clear out of old dvds my son don't watch anymore Lucky if I can get 50p trade on ziffit or music magpie, if I had my time again I would not of bought a single dvd Seems like dvds are never used much now, and I have no interest in blu rays.

I think you're right nickyf, most folk these days stream their films or watch them on the likes of Netflix or Prime. DVDs considered to be old hat. Blu-ray's are better quality, but unless you have a High Def TV and a good sound system the difference is minimal. I copied my collection of discs to a PC linked to the TV some years ago and now they all sit in the loft gathering dust. I can select a film and watch it without leaving my chair. My daughter and her husband, on the other hand, love to buy and watch DVDs. They liken it to reading a book saying they prefer to have something they can see and feel. And they are mere whippersnappers in their 40s! Dad and I watched games standing on the muddy slope of the Holmesdale Road end. He cheered and I rattled.

If you�re young and starting from scratch then fine, but the problem with accepting and cooperating in the demise of DVD�s is a lot of the films you�ll fancy watching you�ll have to rent online or buy again online. Good idea to have a DVD player before they become obsolete, which is longer way off than I think people thought, or be able to play them on your laptop connected to your tv than give Amazon money when you want to watch an old favourite. When the latest Bond came out it was out for 2 days before you could buy it in Tesco for �5 cheaper. Films on Netflix don�t stay available permanently. They add and delete them over and over. All of this technology and streaming is to make and rinse money out of us, but I agree Netflix is well worth it. COYP

you may be glad of a good DVD collection when Vlad Putin fries the internet. Also , excellent movies can be watched again and again...if its been 5 or 10 years since the previous viewing. And so why pay stupid money to download, say , Sergio Leon's 'the good the bad and the ugly' ? I love old Stanley Kubrick movies. Not willing to pay a tenner a pop to download them though. There is also the Orwellian notion of the Past being deleted. Look at the racist rants from the Major in Fawlty Towers. Lawrence of Arabia getting a prefix of a warning due to its non PC content. I do have a 4K OLED screen and expensive sound system which makes the most out of Blu-rays but I tend to only watch a film once which makes Blu-rays very expensive.

Install Kodi on your PC. Install the Exodus Redux on Kodi. Pay 32� a year for real debrid plugin. Every film you could ever want and TV shows many in 4K. You are all grown ups please work it out by googling it and not PM'ing me. Glad All Over

I feel lucky I bought box sets like Fawlty Towers and Bottom years ago. I even have a copy of the Dambusters film where Richard Todd calls his pet dog n*****r.

This is one reason some DVDs are worth keeping. I feel lucky I bought box sets like Fawlty Towers and Bottom years ago. I even have a copy of the Dambusters film where Richard Todd calls his pet dog n*****r.
