Arsenal quite rightly decided long ago they'd rather go with a club legend such as Arteta than some old boy in Vieira. Plus, Arteta obviously had a far better audition in management than Vieira did, you know when he managed, erm...uh?

Part of Vieira's brief is going to be playing his old sides, both of whom sit in the top 5 in the league, and both of whom we've taken 4 points a piece off this season.

Do totally get the point made but I have the opinion of Vieira that he is a reasonably intelligent person. Arsenal have long been the gloryhunters' club, but have fallen far from their previous grace. They don't have the finances or attraction to compete right at the top, the most non-fans in Europe and a side sorely lacking the excitement of your Wilf's, Olise's and Eze's in the world.

Even if they did come sniffing, I would consider it foolish indeed for PV to even consider taking over there. I've also heard rumours that as a young boy growing up in France, PV dreamed of one day moving to Norwood, going to football training in Beckenham, drinking in the Wetherspoons in Forest Hill and shopping at Tesco's in Purley. His life is complete at the Palace.

Classic

Still smiling so glad Ayew scored does so much work with very little praise on this site , i saw things in Matetaa that most on here didnt see just needed a run in the team ,

Eze not playing think was right he will get his time in the semi , as for Wilf you could see he was carrying a knock was only running faster than he has done for awhile hehe , so many Arse fans to speak to dont know were to start , my brother wont answer my calls

The media going on about how Arsenal were poor last night and didn’t didn’t compete, why do you think that was ? Because we didn’t let them play, very little compliments on our game play. Always the same when a “big” team gets outplayed.

Also have to say how good was Wilf last night, best we’ve seen from him for a long time, no shows of petulance, just got on with running them ragged.

Yep, and have you noticed how Arteta and Lampard apologised to their fans for the poor performance! Would they have apologised if they'd lost to Liverpool or Man City I wonder? What they're really saying is that it was only Palace and they should have been a pushover.

Maybe other clubs will start to show us more respect.

Also, VinceHilaire makes the point about us playing towards the Holmesdale in the first half. Was that our choice or did we lose the toss?

Dad and I watched games standing on the muddy slope of the Holmesdale Road end. He cheered and I rattled.

An absolutely outstanding performance by all players and management, i was totally against Ayew starting, how wrong i was, the fitness levels between the two teams were enormous, before the game i said i thought only two Arsenal players would get in our team, i was wrong only partey, well done to all, fantastic

Good on you Lanzo. He did play well last night and not just the goal (which he took well). He gave Clyne a lot of support as well as his customary runs forward to win free kicks and gain time. Gallagher did a good job on Partey as well. But like you sayan outstanding performance all round.

I hope this wasnt PVs Arsenal audition.

One does wonder. After all, he's having his house built in NORTH London, so presumably he's hoping to be at the Emirates one day - just hope it's not for a few years.

I suspect he will see out his contract. If he can keep improving then he deserves the wages that a big club will be able to pay him.

It's 106 miles to Chicago, we got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark... and we're wearing sunglasses.

In a way think the most pleasing thing last night was the game management. I'm thinking here of the transition in the second half where we absorbed pressure and consolidated the lead. They might have scored but it really didn't feel likely.

In a sense it's frustrating to look at the table and see all those draws only very few of which were "got away with it" but in truth don't think the table lies - much. It's been huge fun watching us this season but it's been flawed. And - risky to posit this of course - think PV has struggled sometimes with setting out the team to close out a game.

Would love of course to continue the streak of 2 goal victories but think we'll have arrived when we sneak a few single goal victories too.

We can afford to pay him big wages but he hasn’t warranted a major move yet.

I know he is an ex gooner but I don’t think you can underestimate the fact that Palace is his project and if he gets some bits wrong we are not going to destroy him for it. Not sure the Arse would be so generous. He has already shown he is a bit naïve with subs and tactics so I think as a minimum he will take this project as far as he can and see out his contract. I’d like to think he would stay longer if everything works out.

We are currently the envy of many fan bases, long may it continue.

What a brilliant night, what an amazing performance and what a Manager we have!
I am sure I am not alone in wondering whether we would ever see Palace play such great football this season as well as be in the top half of the table and with a cup semi-final to look forward to.
I cannot stop smiling and nor can I stop messaging my Arsenal friends!
