I have to say I am a bit of a meat snob, when I can afford to be. I have 2 preferred butchers where i get meat for special occasions (like Sunday lunches and when we have guests), otherwise supermarket pre-packed meat for just us eating other dishes. You can always taste the difference in a roast dinner, between a good butchers joint/chicken, and a supermarket (even Taste the difference) job.

It must be a good forty years ago that I started banging on to whoever would listen to me about pork in particular and chicken to some extent having become tasteless. We decided - mainly on animal welfare grounds, as it happens - to buy only from independent butchers selling organic, free-range meat, and our eyes - and taste buds - were opened. What a difference. Yes, good meat is expensive, but taking into account bacon, mince, sausages and chops we were probably eating meat four or five times a week. "Eat less, eat better" is a good maxim in my opinion.

We certainly couldn't afford butchers meat every day. the attached photo is one of the joints we found in the freezer, which is defrosting for cooking tomorrow. OK, so in appropriate Biblical terms, we should be feeding 5000. However, it will do us 2 adults for Sunday and Monday, with scraps for the 2 dogs and should be plenty of meat left for a cottage pie on Tuesday. And perhaps some sandwiches for work

Every Friday I had to go and get sausages from Kennedy's for our Tea. Unfortunately they are now are all closed. But we have found an alternative. They are from Ken 'N' Eddys (See what they did there) Beckenham High Street. Expensive but very good.

We grew up on Kennedys sausages & mum used to buy their sausage meat to make home made pasties, as u say shame they all closed down now Originally posted by Apollofuzz

Strangely enough, my wife and I were reminiscing fondly about the wonderful Kennedy's butcher just the other day as we tucked into a sausage and mash supper. In addition to their sausages they made lovely pork pies too. My memory is somewhat fuzzy these days, but, do I recall they had a shop in Church Street near the bottom end of Surrey Street?
Dad and I watched games standing on the muddy slope of the Holmesdale Road end. He cheered and I rattled. |

I was absolutely gutted when they closed seemed the family had a hissy fit, what they should have done is turned their shops into a Greigs style e.g. hot food and drink as well as the sausages and pies. The Ken and Eddy's are a pretty good copy unfortunately nobody is doing the steak pies which I loved. It was a sad when when it closed down.

They do Aunty's Golden syrup pudding or Mr Kipling, deliver to US (and Switzerland where I am).
