As for the French they will not do anything until migrants stop trying to get to the UK and decide to settle in France. What a burden it is that English is the first foreign language, most others learn. I think it's a big factor in many decisions on where people decide to head. Maybe we should all start speaking French, then there would be no point in risking the boat trip!

Am I the only person who upon every time I click 'news and politics', and see the title of this thread, my inner monologue immediately echoes 'WE'VE GOT FUN AND GAMES' in my head? My instinct tells me that the definition of 'fun and games' is very different to Rwandans than the members of Guns n Roses however.

Cornwall is a tourist, agricultural, fishing and retirement area. None of which hold much attraction for new immigrants. Really? And that is part of the problem; they aren't all asylum seekers now. Most are economic migrants but because they claim to be asylum seekers the UK government has to go the verification process. And then we have 'concerned people' stopping planes from repatriating failed asylum seekers. Originally posted by Wisbech Eagle
That's an obviously unrealistic concept. If "all 8 billion" turned up, they couldn't all be asylum seekers because it would have to include everyone they were fleeing from too! This is an international problem that cannot be solved by one country setting its own arbitrary limits, which would create more problems than it solved. If international conventions need modification, then they need to be agreed at UN level. That's not to say we cannot take a firm line on determining who is genuinely entitled to asylum, process things more quickly and avoid the impression of us being a soft target for the victims of the people smuggling gangs, but just setting a number is an impractical, unattainable approach.

None of which hold much attraction for new immigrants. it has everything to do with it....it IS true..just because you poo poo the people complaining about ILLEGAL migrants as it doesnt affect your life doesnt mean its ok to let untold thousands of them in......I walked around St Ives Falmouth, and Truro and never once saw any groups of African migrants sitting around in any of those places...in your mind I suppose thats because they are ALL at WORK.....yeah OK if thats what you think you just carry on....they cost you NOTHING therefore its OK? Even the author of the 'hostile environment' herself ex-PM Theresa May, has come out against this squalid policy. Theresa May has criticised plans to send asylum seekers to Rwanda on the grounds of "legality, practicality and efficacy". The former Conservative prime minister told the Commons she also fears that the new asylum policy - that will see refugees who reach the UK through illegal routes deported to Rwanda - could split families up and increase the trafficking of women and children. She ought to know.
