Yes I believe so. Would be a shame as it would take the gloss of perhaps not a glorious season but certainly one far better than I had anticipated and with far more promise than I usually hold.

On the plus side, I had been in hospital most of last year, and recovering at home since.

My season ticket has been put to good use of course but Monday shall be my first time watching this 'new-look' Palace live. I shall enjoy it no matter what! I may even treat myself to an absurdly over-priced and worryingly dubious 'meal' at SP. Another 10 months in the hospital will be worth it! COYP

Those p**** reduction ops can go wrong, so I've heard

For a club the size of Palace finishing lower mid table prem is about all we can expect to achieve given the way FFP is structured. If we play good football, score goals, have a decent home record, win a few away games (especially if I attend)and have the odd cup run (and one day in my lifetime actually winning one) I think the vast majority would say that’s a job well done.
With Newcastle now joining the elite you now have a top 7. What Leicester have achieved recently is outstanding but them winning the league is maybe a once in a lifetime freak occurrence.
So winning the league for Palace is probably finishing 8th. Unless you have backed Palace to finish top 10 there really isn’t much difference between finishing 10th and 15th bar a few million quid.

Good post.

I think it is why I am always so nervous and catastrophize any theoretical discussions/thinking around relegation. I can't help but envisage myself in the exact same situations and places I am now, in the near future, reminiscing fondly about when we were an established PL side.

I still think of us as almost a 'second season' team, forever flirting with the possibility of the dream coming crushing down. A bit like being at a party you're not supposed to be at and fearing somebody will realise and ask you to leave any moment.

Sounds very depressing, however I do still enjoy the giddy excitement of us being a PL stalwart now. I hope it long continues and TBH do not wish for much more. The occasional win over the likes of Man City and the frequent 3-0 thrashings of Arsenal are the best moments for me. A cup would be glorious, so would European qualification, but I try not to get too down over what could be and appreciate where we are now. The deluded dreams of Palace glory I had as a younger man may not have come to fruition but they are certainly not as much a mere fantasy as they once were and at least each season there is much more to hope for than the Championship Play-offs and the subsequent thinking of what could be... they are now.

A very balanced and fair viewpoint.
Doffs hat.

I've seen a couple of times people criticising our subs and tactics. At the very least our tactics tend to be to try and win games and we do make subs to change games. As often said, compare that with Roy. I don't think Viera is the best manager in the world, however, he seems to be pretty good and to have potential to improve. I also believe he suits our players, in that he can coach them and they will respect his advice and grow as footballers. Viera is a good fit for our club. I wouldn't be happy if we lost him in the off season.

I stuck a fiver freebet on us to be relegated at 1500/1 with Skybet before the semi final. Just as a compensation if the worst did happen. I hope you win your bet.

Good post from Bexley, I suspect most of us would have similar views.

Anyway, it's a pleasure to see that this thread has not degenerated into an opportunity to hurl criticism at PV. He has done us proud and made an excellent job of his first season as a Premier League manager.

Dad and I watched games standing on the muddy slope of the Holmesdale Road end. He cheered and I rattled.

Amen!
It is what attracted me to English football since I was a kid and is going down the drain rapidly with var, time wasting, diving antics, tactical fouls and moaning (continental) managers. By the time this becomes common and acceptable I may as well watch Portugese or Spanish pricks in their own league roll around the pitch pretending to be injured all the time. Then have pundits condone it as " a winning mentality".

Everton did enough yesterday for me to want them down. See if Pickford winks then.

This again.

Role = hold fort. Roy did it with success on next to nothing. But...

Football is also about entertainment. The Premiership is a huge international earner attracting heavy financial investors from around the globe. Roy-ball did not fulfil that objective. It was dull.

Thus, Viera is not hitting the same mark as Roy in terms of points (yet? ever?). However, it is so much better to watch.

Next season will be the test as we move from transition to full-on Viera-ball. Will we add points to the fun?

I will agree on one thing though. I really want to see more youth on the bench.
