Is it me or is it when we get a throw in we tend to not move off our opponent & we tend to not keep possession from that throw in ? Yet watching opposition they move off their player & keep possession - Strange that

Agree. Been a bug bear of mine for a while, we almost never keep possession from a throw.

Seems none of our players are keen to receive it.

Yup I was thinking this too. Watching poor old Joel desperately searching for someone and when none shows or makes an effort he throws it forward in the vague direction of a team mates head. 9 times out of 10 this is unsuccessful and we lose possession.
Come on Patrick this should be worked on in training !

I was always told as a kid if knobody wants it either lob it as far as you can down the line or throw it straight to the oppo nearest then go and tackle him .

The coach was a bricky though in real life so mabye not an exact science but at least he had a plan

And we still need a striker

We don't seem to take quick throw ins rather we wait until the opposition are set.

How many corners and wide free kicks did we get? What did we do with them? Again, our major problem. Our throw ins were crap, but better than usual I thought. At least we normally had the ball.

Liverpool have a throw-in coach in Thomas Gronnemark.

you see it with ever team lack of movement , more you move better the target for the guy taking it , thats all the coachs i had would say , plus your pulling them out of position with rapid movement , if you are static your easy to mark , Also most are foul throws next it will be under arm allowed hehe

Completely agree - our throw-ins are abysmal.

Not so much the thrower more lack of movement. It almost seems that a throw-in is a chance to take a breather.

Often players have their backs to the thrower. Because of this we dwell too long on throw-ins giving the opposition a chance to position. I feel sorry for Ward and Mitchell, they have little chance of us using a throw in productively.

Yes, time for coaching in this elementary aspect of our game.

Maybe we are trying to avoid them , I might be wrong (I normally am ) but I think there was a CL game between Man City and PSG last year with no throw ins at all .

Under Hodgson the throw ins were terrible.

Basically wait for the full back to run up. Wait for the opponent to get set. Then throw the ball and hope you can pass your way out (which we rarely do).

This year has been much better with Clyne and Mitchell. Also, sometimes you see Zaha or Olise take a quick throw-in.

However yesterday our left side went back to Hodgson style tactics.

Throw ins are a neglected part of the game in every respect and I am no longer amazed by the sheer number of foul throws that are allowed to go. The ball is frequently released from in front of the head and thrown down to feet, and there are the occasional raised feet off the ground and they are never penalised. I can remember a game several years ago when the opposition were pulled up for a foul throw and it was thus awarded to Palace, who immediately produced a foul throw of their own, only for the opposition to do it again. At fourth time of asking a legal throw was produced.

I wonder what happens if the build up to a goal starts with a foul throw. Will VAR pick it up? As it will be the same refs who apparently can’t spot it live, I presume not.

I got vision, and the rest of the world wears bifocals.
