Take the new contract off the table for me, Palace have always been a tolerant club, or more tolerant than others at very least. Have your beliefs, sure, but this is something I feel he should have kept to himself and kept out of football, especially in this day and age. Sounds really tolerant.

Frankly, the best policy a club can have is to put a 'no social media' clause (except official club social media) in player's contracts and get rid of this constant issue.

I think the important point to note is that freedom of speech does not mean freedom from consequence. Kouyate is in a position of power as a public figure and said something that appears to go against the club's official equality policy (available on the club's website) and therefore he is liable to be punished. What it may come down to is what he meant when he said 'a real man'. It comes across that he is suggesting that gay men are not 'real men' (whatever that means). If that was not the case then he can clarify and apologise and we can move on. If he intended to make the misguided and homophobic statement that gay men are not 'real men' then I can't see any way back for him at Palace given his contract is up. As I said, you can have your opinions but if you choose to air them publicly there are consequences.

So you don't believe in freedom of speech then, and that people should be censored for fear of offending someone? If that's the case then everyone may as well have their tongue removed at birth, as there's always someone out there looking to be offended.

Regpaddock: Don't go into comedy pal. "Someone" needs educating Quote: So support of LBGQ+ is now compulsory is it? I think I understand what the L stands for, and the B and the G ... but I have absolutely no clue what a Q is and a + could be anything. FFS. More politics in football. As others have said, CK is free to think how he likes. He's a footballer, who really cares about his beliefs on something so trivial? He'll now get castrated in the same way a white player would have if they refused to knee. Poor bloke. If CK's beliefs are what is being insinuated, I happen to disagree with him, but I really couldn't give a toss. He's from a different part of the world to us with different views - I thought we were meant to be tolerant of that? What a non story. His biggest crime is using social media. It seems to give footballers nothing but grief.

Kouyate appears to have broken Palace's Equality Policy in what he said. The consequence may well be he is fined. He had the freedom to say what he said, but that does not mean the club can't fine him. I imagine the players probably even had to sign agreements regarding their public behaviour. Many businesses have similar policies. As I said at the beginning, freedom of speech does not mean freedom from consequence. Even these forums have policies around what you can say. I mean, you have the right to call me a c*nt, but you know that you might end up getting a yellow card.

So what is the difference between a gay and a queer and if I use that word will I get fined?
