Would hate to see Wilf go ... I believe Veira recently said "he's a leader in the dressing room" in one of his post match interviews. Tell me if I'm wrong but I think he’s shown more maturity this season.

You are not wrong at all HoP.

I would also add to your post Wilf is Palace and he has been Palace for so long. Very selfish but him staying would just be the icing on the cake for me in terms of his place in Palace folklore.

Now Zaha's got a bit of green grass ahead of him here... and finds Ambrose... not a bad effort!!!!

Disagree - consistent is one thing he's not.

Guehi, he's been consistent. McArthur, consistent. Even players like Schlupp and Kouyate...even if it's consistently 'okay' at least it's consistent. Wilf can be magical one moment, then completely invisible and petulant the other.

In terms of the OP, I can't see anyone taking him for decent money now. He's probably worth more to us over the next couple of seasons than we'd recoup....I'd say he's finishing his top flight career with us now.

Wilf as you say may be accused of being a touch inconsistent at being magical, invisible and petulant. However he is never 'inconsistent' in being the biggest headache every opposition team has to worry about week in and week out. Wilf also hardly ever misses a match despite the regular punishment he receives during each game due to constant rotational fouling.
I for one think he should by now have outgrown his tantrums, however a little bit of me thinks it's that's it's part of his DNA and without the odd flare up it just wouldn't be the passionate, trickster, explosive Wilf!!
He had a go at that young Man Utd kid on Sunday after their altercation but when the teams came back out in the second half Wilf went and spoke to him before the match restarted.

Absolutely.

For me there is just no question.

Palace legend (over-used epithet but true here) and great player.

Stay, stay, stay until you can't and then take on the role of mentor, as has been suggested. Palace through and through.

For the first time since Wilf rejoined us, we are a team on an upward and improving trajectory. In many ways and considering the benefits to him of being here you have to question why he’d want to leave.

1) he is paid fantastic money, more than anyone else in the team.
2) his family are settled in the area and he has his group of friends outside football on the doorstep too.
3) he never settled at Utd so what makes anyone think he could settle elsewhere.
4) he is guaranteed to start for Palace when fit. He is not going to get that anywhere else.
5) he knows he is the fan favourite and I’m pretty sure he likes that. Again it is unlikely he’d get that anywhere else.
6) he has a great opportunity to move forward as the teacher and role model to the up and coming players at Palace. You only get that sort of respect when you are the legend that he is within a club. He would be pretty much an impact player at a top club and probably wouldn’t be given that senior statesman acknowledgment or responsibility.
7) is playing European football really what it’s cracked up to be? ( Rangers got to a Euro final ffs). He is already playing in the most competitive league in the world and most European games are played against teams that would barely scrape into the PL. it’s only really the top couple of teams in Spain, Italy, Germany and France that are competitive against Liverpool, Man City, Chelsea. Why give up regular football for half a chance of half a game against Real Madrid once in your lifetime.

In short I think he would be foolish to leave. He should become the Le Tiss of Palace and wallow in that.

Yup

Every summer we have this. Will he stay will he go. Cant see him going myself. We are no longer a one trick pony club where the tactics have been to park the bus and try and hoof it up to Wilf. There are other quality players around WZ in the team and we are playing a more attractive possession based style. Whats not to like ? Also the guy has a young family and I cant see him wanting to uproot them.

Bit of chat popping up today about Roma considering a bid for Wilf

There's a part of me that can that transfer happening. European football, a big name club in the world of football, Mourinho, realistic chance to win something, 2 years left on the contract, Tammy Abraham making a success of it plus Chris Smalling and Matic out there too...

Wouldn't be surprised, Abrahams to keep him company, we know Jose likes him, but no champions league, Europa league. and probably 15/20m

As much as I hate to say it I think Mourinho would really know how to get the absolute best out of Wilf, and could utilise him to push Roma towards the top of Serie A.

The money would have to be right but I wouldn't begrudge him leaving at this point in his career.

Can only imagine getting paid a bucket load of money and living in some mansion in Rome!!!

If the money is right then it's the perfect time IMO.

We have Olise, Eze, Ebiowei and Rak-Sakyi who are all young and talented plus Ayew and Schlupp to cover out wide.

Would be a terrific move for him and a chance to land some silverware under Jose.

Get £20m and put it towards trying to land Gallagher.

First time in a while a move has been mooted for Wilf where I wouldn't begrudge him going.

Not because I wouldn't miss him! Far from it! He's just had his best season with us.

BUT
Roma is not an English club and would be exciting for him and we would get some sort of fee for him later on in his career.

AND,
as others have mentioned, we have quite a few good wide options (though Wilf is the best of them). Even Eduoard.

BUT
Loss of a leader and our leading goalscorer. He has spearheaded every Palace team he has played for from the promotion season onwards. Can Eze or Olise fill in? Realistically? I suppose Wilf can't play forever.

I ain't got nuthin' funny to say. Sorry.

If this is true, then I wish him all the best.He deserves a chance at another club and right now with the young talent that we have I couldn't think of a better time to cah in on him.
