I wonder if Roy would provide Dougie with some honest feedback on potential signings from the current Watford squad??

I remember seeing a comment from Roy that he was 'surprised' by the squad when he took over at Watford, and I'd assume he wasn't surprised for the better.

Don't imagine there would be too many glowing recommendations given their form under him.

The left-back, Kamara, has had a couple of decent games.

Spurs are interested in Cornet. There might well be another player from Fulham's relegated side in Ola Aina; if there's truth in rumours then he's impressed Dougie and got good reports from Guehi, Andersen and Gallagher. I see a lot of speculation about transfers but not so many vacancies in a side that improved our league position and clearly have more to offer. Another young full back and better cover at centre back plus replacement for departing midfielders would do it I'd have thought. Our shots to goals ratio isn't too bad; it's possession to shots that's poor; Plange may be ready to come straight into the first team as well.

He was awful against us, before seeing red.

I don't think Burnley have one player on their books that would be a good fit for Palace

Excellent shot stopper. Not so confident with the ball at his feet.

A bit like our RB position, it's not an area that I think needs immediate attention especially given the likely transfer fee

One player at Burnley who might be a good fit is Josh Brownhill.

He's one of those overlooked and underrated ones - not far off Macca in mould. His tackle and intercept rate is up there with the best in midfield. But he is no one trick pony. He actually created more chances from open play than Gallagher did last season - not bad for someone playing in a side as sterile as Burnley and his overall chance creation is up there in the best of the rest as he also has a decent corner on him.

Cornet is interesting too of course. One unremarked point about him is that he has serious history as a wingback. He was only really converted into a full-time forward when at Burnley.

Our order of priorities is (for me)

1. Midfield. We likely lose Luka, Macca is getting on, Gallagher is going back, Kouyate may leave.
2. RB/Versatile full back - I'd be delighted with the Clyne we saw end last season; Mitchell gets the odd knock and we could then plonk Clyne there if we had someone else at RB, and he is oldish for a right back playing how Vieira wants to play
3. Central defensive cover. Ward came in there, speaks volumes. Especially if Kouyate goes.
4. Goalie. Can't help but worry that Guaita will start to slip and Butland doesn't look a No. 1 PL keeper to me

So I guess that means Tarkowski and Pope from my list above. Maybe Brownhill but he's a player I've literally never noticed (based purely on preceding post)

Thing about Tark is as a free agent I suspect he'd break our wage structure as I imagine there'll be an auction situation with loads of clubs in for him. He's good but I imagine we'll find better value in a younger model to play reserve Cb and fill out in the three when we play that system.

and as you hint at Omph, at 29 he doesn't fit the age profile of players we seem to be wanting to bring in. Ideally we need a versatile defender who can play either centrally or at full back. Ironically, a fit Ferguson would fit that bill - we can hope.

Picking up Andersen from Fulham was a pretty shrewd move and there should be some possibilities this off-season as well

Nick Pope. For me, Guaita was not quite so effective this season and Butland is no more than a backup. Pope, would probably be an upgrade, and will definitely want to leave to keep his England opportunities alive, However, he is 30 and probably there will be other sides keener than us

Maxwell Cornet. managed to score 9 goals for Burnley as a 25 year-old (next best player notched 3) in his first season in the Premier League. Could probably switch between the left side and central like Zaha. If there is a reasonable release fee he should be considered, particularly in the unlikely event that they can shift Benteke

Dwight McNeil. He came into the league as a very creative player but his stock has fallen and there was a time this year when the fans turned on him. However, he is virtually the same age as Gallagher and coming into this past season would probably have been higher rated. He seems an ideal replacement as a right sided midfielder and is currently on a very low salary

Been linked to Johnstone at WBA which I feel might be more reasonable as Pope will have a lot more suitors. Cornet would be a good addition but will also have a lot of interest. Perhaps we can off load Benteke to them in a deal, although I think with Weghorst already there, after Woods departure, may not be a fit for them. Perhaps Watford or even Norwich might like Tekkers ?

Tekkers agent is on record as saying he has no intention of leaving. This is the link

[Link]

Yes he will be an expensive 3rd striker and yes it would be nice to get his wages off the bill but two points:

1. It may make sense to have Plange out on loan getting minutes and not benched or in the U23 squad. Quicker development that way.

2. Tekkers does offer an option - still. His strike rate last season was similar to Mateta and Edouard - that he got the fewest minutes limited his output.
