He got a fair bit of stick in the past when our strategy veered between gala signings and freebies. Did last summer show a different side to his abilities as a DoF? I think it did. None of our signings were bad and several were brilliant, no doubt helped by Vieira's coaching. But even there, Freedman may have had a hand.

I think it is correct to say Dougie can only work within the remit he is given, For me, he is one of the best if you give him the tools to do the job. IMO we have a very bright few seasons in front of us with the academy now in full working order. COYP

Yup great job Dougie of course we don't know what his instructions from the board were in he past so maybe previous criticism was unfair: The Board to Dougie over various seasons: 1. "We have no money Dougie see what you can do" OR 2. "It's time we had a couple of marque signings the really great players wont come to Palace how about a couple of Liverpool cast offs, they must be good". And then last season: Dougie to board "just leave me alone to do my job I know what I am doing". Board "Okay"

Looking back at the last 17 years, Freedman's signings for us were much better than some of the other dross brought in by other managers.
