And the French police YT!

There are many examples in the past of the French police targeting innocent English football fans (not just Liverpool) with pepper spray and tear gas.

As I wrote in an earlier post, the organisation at the ground was severely lacking. Our supporters in France have gained a reputation as hooligans and that's how they're treated whether or not there are any signs of trouble.

Uefa are culpable. They claim that, since the match was switched from Russia in February, the French had very little time to prepare properly. How long do they need to treat football supporters like enthusiastic fans going to an entertainment event rather than hooligans looking for a fight?

Our own Palace Chick, who was in Paris at the weekend, wrote on the first page of this thread that, as far as she could see of the many Liverpool fans, they 'behaved themselves'.

Many of the fans probably did behave. It’s the ones that didn’t who are the problem and if it was 10% it’s a lot of trouble.

The French police should be used to fan disorder as they’ve had lots of problems this season -much worse than anything we’ve seen here. UEFA now setting up an inquiry. From what I’ve read it’s more complicated than fans misbehaving - if indeed they were.

Regarding the OP I didn’t mind who won but Madrid have shown incredible resilience to come through as winners and deserved their victory. I noticed that Simon Jordan and Michael Owen still think Liverpool are the best team in Europe - not sure on what basis?? It’s good to play attractive football but in the end the only metric is goals. Fact is that Liverpool have played three finals and not scored in any. I think a lot of Palace fans would have sacrificed a bit of our attractive play for a few more wins.

Is that you Roy? Haha. In all seriousness a good point.

Very slightly related but I was impressed as it did seem to be a 'tactical masterclass'. It's a phrase heard often in football however often leaves you thinking 'Really? Was it really a tactical masterclass... or is that just football sometimes????'

I was very impressed with Real and Ancelotti as they did seem to have Liverpool sussed. Too often, pretty football can be seen as 'tactical skill' however I do often question whether or not being aesthetically pleasing is directly related to effectiveness? Or is it for those Man U fans you had at school in South London who've never even played for a Sunday team but seem determined to lecture you on football? The equivalent of clapping mindlessly at the jingling of keys!

Now Zaha's got a bit of green grass ahead of him here... and finds Ambrose... not a bad effort!!!!

Fair points Nick, but I do think Real have a few too many fake injuries. Rolling around, apparently in agony, one minute and racing up the pitch the next. A masterclass in time wasting is how I see it.

The common denominator between trouble at Stade de France on Saturday and at Wembley for the Euro final last year was English fans AND the French police? How do you work that one out?

This thread is about the match in Paris, which was the subject of my post. What happened at Wembley was quite different and, of course, it involved football supporters (not Liverpool though) behaving badly.

It is well known that the French police employ old fashioned methods of crowd control and, because there is history of disorderly behaviour of a minority of English supporters, they tend to take an unnecessarily aggressive approach.

Tbh I wouldn’t trot around Anfield or Goodison Park over the next few years and the recession. You’ll be going home with no jacket, jumper, shoes, phone, wallet or money, after you’ve begged someone to lend you a phone call to get a train ticket home paid.

It's funny that you go out of your way to blame Liverpool fans, regurgitating the chip on the shoulder narrative yet you seem to have one on your own.

How will they know the facts?

Yes I'm aware of that. However, my comment about a common denominator (English fans in both cases) was in response to Croydon Proud bringing a comparison with Wembley 2021 into the thread. You then added "and the French Police YT", which makes no sense whatsoever in that context.

Anyway, I'd be interested to hear what other recent examples there have been of French police using an unnecessarily aggressive approach towards English supporters.
