With the opposition we had to play and being at home for the final, we should have won the European Championship. The penalties were a farce.
He is a victim of his own failures and is too cautious, among other things.

I've never understood why people lose so much perspective when it comes to the National team.

Imagine we had that mindset when it came to following Palace; anything other than winning the tournament is a disgrace? Lose a penalty shootout? It's a farce!

We got to an FA Cup final in 2016 barely facing a big side (Reading in the QF, Watford in the semis) and still lost the final - was the conclusion 'yeah we got further, but my god we had it easy and fell at the first hurdle'.

People just can't discuss the national team sensibly - if the bar is anything other than winning the World Cup is a failure, no wonder we're constantly bloody disappointed.

There is a constant shoving down the throat of the fans that the Premier League is the best in the world. Then there are many young English players regularly playing in the top sides in the Premier League. You can't blame people then for thinking England's best chance is now.
As I said earlier, Southgate lost it for the penalties. If I did something equivalent in my job - made such a poor decision that my team failed, I would expect a sanction at the very least.
Southgate has done well but he's not exactly the Messiah. I liked it when he wore waistcoats - most fetching.

This type of reaction isn't unique to now though - we've been like it as long as I can remember, even when the squads have been much worse.

This is a great chance for England to win something, for sure - as you say, they've got players good enough to make it at all the most successful club teams in Europe - but that's also true of Brazil, France, Germany, Italy, Spain, Argentina etc. - we're not competing against minnows, and the margins are tiny in knockout football.

I think the penalty example is a good one in terms of how differently people judge England; I don't think I've ever seen a manager personally blamed for losing a penalty shootout at club level. It's generally just accepted that they're a bit of a lottery, until England lose one, at which point it's a farce.

I remember watching Palace miss 3 out of 4 in the league cup semi-final in Cardiff in 2012, and not a person there felt the manager was responsible.

GS has now come out saying the term 'WAGs' is disrespectful.

TBH I'd rather he concentrate on winning games for England then constantly trying to be a stool pigeon for 'diversity and inclusion' fanatics.

On the other hand, I would like to see the return of phrases such as 'Gold-diggers', 'Slags' or 'Layabouts'. Perhaps that's not quite the spirit intended however.

Now Zaha's got a bit of green grass ahead of him here... and finds Ambrose... not a bad effort!!!!
