Having finally got round to reading ‘the ball is round’ A global history of football by David Goldblatt you can read about the original Crystal Palace team playing in the earliest form of the FA cup during when the early rules of football competition were being established In a very general parallel we follow a path from the other side of the river - a bit like Arsenals roots in Woolwich Arsenal, a team named after munition workers much as we were named after the glass building in Hyde park exhibition A couple of years back their was also a Netflix drama on footballs origins in the country which again I believe must have used the book for inspiration at least
