Being played in deeper role on the left side of a double pivot with Jorginho. He doesn't look comfortable in that role. We saw Vieira try him deeper last year and it didn't really work.

With 10 days of the transfer window left I wonder if this is Tuchel deciding if he wants to keep him or not. From what I've seen so far I'd be surprised if Gallagher lasts more than an hour. (He'll probably score now!)

63 minutes and he's substituted. I was right, give or take 3 minutes.

Not the best game for Conor and not his best position. However even if he was to come back to us I don't think we'd be able to play him in the same way as we did last year, which basically negates his main positive a attributes.

I think he'll end up at Newcastle as they'll be the only ones willing to pay 40m.

Well they can't pin the 3rd Leeds goal on him. Chelsea getting hammered. What a great league!

3-0 to Leeds now and down to 10 men . Gallagher looked very disapointed coming off . He looks only a shadow of the player he was at Palace . He wont be making the World cup at this rate .

No doubt Gallagher was playing under strict instructions but what it did show is that he does not have a lot of creativity and his main asset of enthusiasm is not as effective in a side like Chelsea. At the beginning of last season all the players were new to PV and perhaps a little hesitant but Gallagher was full of energy and enthusiasm which helped carry the team and built confidence in our players. Looking at our team today and Gallagher’s performance for Chelsea our need for this type of player is reduced. We still need a creative hard working midfielder and my view is Gallagher is not that.COYP

He's got to be soul-destroyed by that. Feel for him. You finally get the opportunity and it's in a compromised position, doing things you've never claimed to be your forte .

I suspect it's a major black mark against him in the eyes of Tuchel. If he'd proven himself capable as an improvised replacement for Kante, he would have a huge value to their squad. I guess to be elite he needs to prove versatility.

I listened to the game on the radio and it sounds like Chelsea were dominated today. The fact someone as respected and experienced as Koulibaly got two yellows tells you there was more to the team performance than individual limitations.

Chelsea were totally out-worked by Leeds as proved by the running statistics and gifted them the all-important opening goal.

One of the most abject performances from Chelsea I have witnessed for some time and credit to Leeds for their workrate and dominance.

I've just had a quick glance at the Chelsea fans'forum as at half-time, and Gallagher is one of a number who aren't exactly getting rave reviews.

Well you know what Chelsea fans are like, they didn’t pay £80 million for him so he can’t possibly be any good

Even more proof that he’s a much better fit for us

Can’t see Gallagher starting again any time soon based on that which means Tuchel has a decision to make.

Nor RLC for that matter both were really poor in that Chelsea side . As others have said we had the best of both of them and time to let go

And we still need a striker

As I’ve said before. Gallagher first half of season was outstanding. We needed his energy, enthusiasm (and goals). After Xmas, I can’t really remember him being great in any games. Energy and enthusiasm only gets you so far and I’m amused that our own Jordan Ayew doesn’t seem to attract the same glowing praise for exhibiting exactly the same attributes.

Move on….

The problem for Gallagher is that Tuchel may like him and want him but he doesn't need him. The result is that if he tries to squeeze him into the team, it's in the wrong position and as today showed, that's not going to end well for anyone, Connor or Chelsea. All parties have a tough decision to make and something is going to have to give. Either Connor is going to stay and likely sacrifice a year or two of his career with no better than an even chance he does eventually end up in a position that suits him, or he's going to have to go and put his boyhood club behind him. The only certainty is that he's not going to get what he really wants (an attacking midfield shirt at Chelsea) anytime soon. The next ten days are decision time.

With regards to Connor coming back to Palace, I sort of agree with a lot of the posters above; he had a great half-season and an average half-season. I'd take him back, but I suspect Chelsea will want more than he's really worth to us. And to some extent, we've already moved on from what we were in the first half of last season so our needs have also changed and we're not really as desperate for him as we might have been then. The one proviso for me is that I get the impression PV really loves Connor and would have him back in a pinch. If that's the case, I'd give Vieira what he wants; it's a good enough reason for me. The interesting bit over the next ten days will be if Chelsea is prepared to sell and us, Newcastle, and Everton all come in with bids, which Connor will choose. That will tell us a lot about him. I've always said that aside from Doucoure, he's been our main target over the summer and until he's ruled out, that will remain the case. I still think that.
