If Eze is a Rolls Royce, its time he had a good service because he isn't running on all cylinders at the moment.

An interesting point: while I get your logic, how many players at top 6 clubs these days get there by fighting for their place while sitting on the bench? My guess: very few.

As far I can see, top clubs buy the finished product 90+ percent of the time. They're not interested in developing talent and if that needs doing, they farm players out on loan and let other sides do the developing. So, there are two ways you break through. First, you go out on loan to establish yourself and come back the finished product, more or less instantly making the side. Once you've had a season like Conor had at Palace, if you return only to be consigned once again to the margins of the team, isn't that telling you the club really doesn't think you're quite good enough for their standards?

Or second, you're just a plain teenage superstar and you make it simply because you're that good (Phil Foden) without having to go out on loan. There aren't very many young players like that, but there are a few exceptions that prove the rule.

The fact that Chelsea feels the need to bring in midfielders AFTER the season Conor had with us (and for that matter, much the same applies to RLC) tells me (and I may be wrong, but it's my read of the situation) that they don't think Conor is a long-term option for a side that aspires to win titles. I'm sure they like him well enough and aren't averse to keeping him, but it seems pretty clear that his future - as has proven the case with RLC, is as a squad player. He isn't central to their plans now and likely never will be in which case, for the right price, I doubt they'd be unwilling to consider moving him on.

The idea someone suggested about sending Wilf to Chelsea and bringing Conor here, at least for the remainder of this season but possibly longer in either or both cases actually doesn't strike me as outlandish. I doubt that sort of "swap" (or whatever you want to call it) would ever happen, but it's not an idea without merit for all sides.

I don't disagree. And nor do I think Connor is good enough for a top 6 team, never had. He was played in quite a unique role for us, which completely played to this strengths. At Chelsea there are 'specialist' that are better at the different facets of the game.

I think its clear from the outside that they aren't happy with the midfield, and haven't been for a while. RLC's desire to stay, and stay, and stay is an indication of his personality.

My point with Connor is that he's only had half a season, and half a season in which he has played. He has every right to be a confident lad, and has consistently stepped up over the last couple of years. Wanting to make it, is obviously very different from making it.

I cant see him wanting to give up the fight the moment they sign another midfielder. Give it another 6 months, maybe another year and that might change.

At present he is a 'Reliant Robin' smoking in the inside lane.

Not playing for them tonight with despite Kante, Jorginho and Mount all out. Another two players already injured in the game and the 20yr that they bought from Villa just come on ahead of him...and the rumours showing they're about to spend 100m on another player in his position. He needs to leave the club for his own career whether that's to us or not who knows.

My god. If we could get Gallagher back I’d be happy. Maybe a swap deal with Chelsea with Zaha going other way.

Finally brought him on when they were chasing the game this eve. Him and they young LB made Chelsea look much better, bundles of enthusiasm and energy. Just what we need.

Chelsea made some horrific signings this summer, 50m Cucurella, 35m Kouliabaly, 15m Aubamayang - all completely ineffective. Plus Fofana 80m and Sterling 50m both consistently injured. Makes me feel better about some of our past duds.

For his own future career prospects you would think he must be starting to rethink whether it’s worth staying at Chelsea. But even if he became available, would we be able to afford him and despite last season would he be prepared to choose Selhurst over the likes of Villa or Newcastle if they came calling? Then there is the question of can you fit him and Eze into the side with both looking to fill the ‘number10’ spot. Last year Eze was recovering from injury and used sparingly, often out wide, so was less of an issue to give them both playing time.

Am starting to think Conor coming back is unlikely, which is a shame

Does anybody with better insight or knowledge than me (even the slightest would qualify) know what ramifications the Mudryk purchase by Chelsea would have for any alleged interest we may have in Gallagher?

Have seen it touted that they may look to offload him for FFP reasons but I really wouldn't know if that's accurate or not? Also seen that we are supposedly still interested but you know, same. Finally, he does seem to get the odd run out for them so not exactly 'out of the picture' entirely for Potter I'd suggest.

Edit: Couple of links

Now Zaha's got a bit of green grass ahead of him here... and finds Ambrose... not a bad effort!!!!

It feels like it's time to put Conor Gallagher behind us. It's like we're a lovestruck teenager still chasing their first girlfriend, even though they got dumped ages ago.

We need midfielders this window. At least 2. They can be next years back ups if we can get someone better in the summer. Because Doucoure is the only good midfielder we have and Hughes is a decent squad player. The rest are not/will not be fit for purpose next year.

Gallagher will be at Chelsea until the summer and I suspect beyond. He is getting as much game time as he can expect at Chelsea and we can't wait. Move on to realistic targets and if he goes elsewhere in the summer so be it.
