I agree about the preference for Eze to have a free role supported by two more defensive minded midfielders.
However, Vieira has continually stated that he wants to play with one ‘number 6 and two number 8s.’
This seems to be the trend with many teams in modern football playing just one holding midfield player.
On the assumption that Doucoure is the number 6 and Eze takes one of the number 8 positions is Gallagher the best candidate for the other number 8 position?
For me the jury is out as Gallagher does his best work in the final third and he seems less effective the deeper he comes.
McArthur would be the perfect candidate for the other number 8 position with his excellent all round game, but age and injuries have taken their toll.
To my mind we really need a replacement for McArthur and I’m unsure Gallagher fits the bill.
He’s got the energy, enthusiasm and 100% commitment and is prepared to put the tackles in, but I’m not sure he’s got the defensive side to his game that McArthur has.
He’s young though and it could develop over time.

If the case is two 8s and one 6, i think Eze and Doucoure should be the 8s, and i dont think we have anyone yet with the right attributes to play as a lone 6, in the Premiership.

Jeez…you are guilty of reading comment from a player in his Lens team saying he was “a complete midfielder” and completely ignoring his main strengths and why we have bought him. He’s first and foremost a no.6, no doubt about it. He will play in the pivot for us this year.

I dont think he is physically strong to play as a lone No 6, only my opinion

Whilst it is only gossip - the BBC gossip page this morning has Gallagher and Broja being offered to Everton so that Chelsea can get Gordon.
No smoke without fire?

I can see its the football insider - will it happen, who knows?
If you look hard enough tomorrow morning you could see the same story rewritten / rehashed a bit to replace the name Gordon with Zaha - or some other equally likely / unlikely permutation of guesswork - its sure a frustrating time of year to be a fan.

Sounds like Chelsea want Gordon and or the ex Arsenal player at Barcelona. I think Zaha is the back up plan for them.

You always read rumours about players being swapped, but how often does that actually happen? Brighton got Colwill on loan, but that's about the only one I can think of this season, and that's not really a swap. It's almost like this mythical deal that for some reason parades around the media and fans' forums every window, but never actually carries any weight.

I'm happy to be corrected if I've missed all these swap deals.

You are right, very rarely happen. Can’t see a deal involving 3 players tbh. Also wouldn’t this put Gordon’s value at about £75m?
Carl was of the opinion Colwill loan was separate to Cucurella deal but seems likely it was

Times online reporting we have made a £27m bid for Gallagher. I don't have a link unfortunately.
