Your anxiety will be through the roof by the time we have played City, I expect we will be bottom on one or zero points.
Its a long season, Arsenal didnt win a game in August last year and finished 5th.

I'm with you here. This is going to be a tense time up until after Xmas. Our schedule is front end loaded. We don't play a team that finished below us last year or a promoted team until November. Add to that the WC in the same period and we could look like we are in trouble early.

We just need to stick it out and take what we can anywhere we can. We could sail through the second half of the season easily. All other things being equal.

Arsenal had two shots and one goal and a deflected own goal. This looks a decent team and we had two golden chances against them. Ramsdale kept them in it. If that’s a sign for a troubled season for us then I’m more than happy tbh.

We play the same teams in the second half of the season as in the first (though, admittedly with no WC).

In the first 20-30 minutes Arsenal played such crisp, clinical football – sharp passes, perfect positioning, and intricate movement – they looked like they could win the Champions League. From that point onward, we outplayed them by a considerable margin.

Certainly we're flawed. At this point, Eze and Ayew have glaring weaknesses in addition to their strengths. Whoever our striker will be, he'll be mediocre by EPL standards. Wilf is easily frustrated by his teammates as well as opponents. We can't press as well as Vieira wants us to. To reach our potential we need to add 1 good defender, 1 midfielder, and 1 scorer this month.

But with little preseason time together, we clearly outplayed a VERY GOOD Big 6 club for 60-70 minutes in our first match of the season.

As I said in an earlier post. There will be other teams more upset than us come the end of the weekend.
Villa losing to Bournemouth - their fans I expect will be fully disgruntled this evening.

Very true Nubes!
I was even momentarily appalled as Villa are above us, them losing to a newly promoted side and us Arsenal, but realised it was alphabetical

I was just on their message board. A good few fans want gerrard gone!! All is not well behind their scenes.
We are fine - we are happy with Pat. They will have problems if results are flaky it seems.

They seem to have spent a lot but not have yet formed much of a style or identity. Would obviously be miles better with the diving champion still there.
When you look at their squad on paper they look top half, even top 6. When you see them on the pitch, they're nothing special, entirely forgettable.

Very disappointed yesterday.

Already posted something similar but for me we desperately need to improve midfield who seemed nonexistent and hard to grasp conceptually yesterday although Doucoure did look class albeit very much the ‘new kid’. Ebiowei showed more promise in few minutes he was on than Ayew has in the same amount of years for me. I’d start him ahead of Jordan. Didn’t quite expect that but a real silver lining on the cloud if that continues.

As many have noted, we need a striker IMO, Edouard still looks overawed and a perfect example of the chasm between Scottish football and the PL for me. Mateta good but can’t help but want for more.

On a side note, I am worried about Eze. As hilarious as certain individuals notions he’ll challenge for a ballon d’or in the next few years are, he looked very much, for me, the epitome of one of my biggest gripes with ‘football fans’ (those who I usually actually associate with Arsenal) in that the game cannot be won with smoke and mirrors. It might look nice on social media but does not have much context or substance on its own. I’ve thought that with Eze for a while, great fun against Nowheresville FC in the cup but his lack of all round game is a concern. Looks positionally weak, doesn’t put in necessary graft, doesn’t quite fulfill the playmaker role for me, set pieces left a lot to be desired yesterday and have done too often and looked as though he’d of rather been anywhere else than where he was after receiving the ball 10 yards out from goal and only the keeper to beat.

All seems a bit hysterical at this moment in time must be said but it is frustrating when the first game comes round as though nobody at the club was expecting it. We were much better second half but there is still much that’s easy to critique. I expect things to improve however will be bitterly disappointed and concerned without any further incomings and feel as though we will need to step up a gear ASAP or real anxiety may start to creep in.

Yes. Style over substance. If the other components of the midfield work in a manner that connects each player's role to the overall objective (competing in the midfield area, supporting attack and defence as necessary, playing as unit), then maybe Eze's positive attributes can be brought forward. At the moment it looks rather disjointed, not the least because Vieira seems convinced that Schlupp is some kind of holding central midfielder. Lat season Gallagher was the glue that held it all together, this season I wonder if Doucoure can perform that role.
Vieira needs to have a long think about what he wants from the midfield and does he have the players to achieve it.

Rubbish, judge him after 8/10 games, he will go to the World cup Gallagher wont, we need a partner for Doucoure, Defensive minded to give Eze, Wilf, Olise, Ebiowei, and the full backs to get forward more, the English disease is it dose not appreciate skill, that is why LeTissier, Currie, Bowles, Worthington, Hudson together have less caps together than David Batty, and also why we haven't even got to a final in WC or Euros in 56 years
