The obvious point on this is that we're going to be drawing with Liverpool or Man U/ City and lose in 15 minutes of extra time. The reverse will not happen for us. This actually has the potential to skew the league. We had a poor season against the top sides last year but if this had been done in previous years, we might have lost around 9-10 points.
Changes are only ever for the big sides in the Premier League.

What really gets up my nose is the now universal habit of pretty well every time a player goes down from a tackle they stay down and writhe around in, what is usually, feigned agony.

I am not quite sure how you overcome this as obviously there are occasions when a player is genuinely injured. But the amount of time this wastes is considerable.

I was watching some footage of games from pre-2000 and you saw some pretty meaty tackles going in but rarely did the victim stay down. There was one awful challenge by Vinnie Jones on Cantona but, due credit to our French nemesis, he got straight up and carried on.

obviously none of these new rules will apply to the big clubs, even more chances for referees to make sure that the "right team" wins, thus keeping Sky happy

Hmmm... wasn't it Mr Guardiola who expressed his upset at the change and therefore the large amount of stoppage time after his side conceded a late goal in the (what I call) 'Charity Shield'?

Palace since 19 August 1972. Palace 1 (Tony Taylor) Liverpool 1 (Emlyn Hughes)

You noticed that as well, claimed the 'Big Brains' didn't inform them etc etc . . .

He always has a moan about something when they lose but he knows he can get an advantage out of it. In all fairness, he hasn't had to moan too often recently.

while i applaud Referees giving a fella a maximum of ten seconds , for a throw-in. We still have player x, about to throw in.....and then he defers to player y for the same throw.

its clear and obvious time-wasting.

the 'Net-We-had' at the Etihad....again

I thought the same thing Palazio. Very clever tactic - Keep giving the ball to another player to throw in. Or are referees taking note of the total time taken?

Dad and I watched games standing on the muddy slope of the Holmesdale Road end. He cheered and I rattled.

There are two aspects of the modern game I really dislike.

The first is the tendancy of players to surround the refereee to vociferously dispute a decision, often touching him in the process (isn't that illegal?). The second is the ridiculous practice of making unnecessary substitutions late in the game, especially as 5 subs are now allowed. Both these things waste playing time and disrupt the flow of play.

The time wasting aspect was particularly noticeable at Goodison Park when Chilwell won a penalty after a foul by Doucoure. I've read that it was 3 minutes and 10 seconds before the penalty was taken after the protestations of the players and Pickford's shameful tactics. In all the ball was in play for only 51mins and 47secs during that match. Even in our game on Friday there was only 59mins and 33secs of actual playing time.

As far as substitutions are concerned, 40 (54%) of the 74 made in all Prem games were made in the last quarter of the game. Man City and Newcastle used all 5 during this time. They are not tactical and, apart from disrupting the game, have no real value. I'd prefer substitutions during the last quarter of a game only be made as the result of injuries to try to avoid the time wasting and disruption.

Certainly not illegal possibly unlawful.

Whilst they are taking note of the time taken for these events perhaps they could also try to see if they can have the throw in / free kicks taken from the right place -

Last night Arsenal were stealing yards at every opportunity.

Ah look....If we were winning last night our players would have been doing the exact same and we would love it.

Premier League told new rules are "absurd" as UEFA confirm plans for Champions League.

Adding 10/12 minutes for hardly noticeable things that are just part of the game are dragging the tedium out, harming the players and boring the fans.

You don't need more than five minutes unless something serious has happened.

As usual, it favours the richest clubs with the deepest squads.

It is difficult to actually remember the first half, it seems so long ago.
